@McCarthy, please advise.

As long as he's not coaching or announcing games, they should be in good shape.

I don't know what a special advisor to a college team does, but if it involves managing the clock you're :censored:ed.

By rule, an analyst/advisor is not allowed to be involved  in the on-field coaching or instruction. On game day, he cannot wear a headset.

Now, since ASU is in year 2 of their "new leadership model", who really knows if it will parallel other Power 5 schools. He will likely break down film and help install the defensive gameplay for the week ahead while the ten assistant coaches and four GAs do the on-field stuff and recruiting.

The Southeastern Conference hired international accounting firm Deloitte to conduct a review of its football officiating, reacting in part to what Commissioner Greg Sankey called the intense, often opinionated view of referees by the public and media.

Sankey said conversations began in September about ways to examine officiating and find ways to better communicate with the public about the overall quality of the work done by referees at a time when scrutiny and criticism has never been more pervasive. He said the SEC was not responding to a particular problem and does not consider the review an audit. He did not disclose how much it cost.

The results of the review will not be released publicly but were being shared with coaches, administrators and university presidents at this week’s SEC spring meetings in Destin, Florida. Sankey said it would include statistical analysis from game and officiating reports; interviews with coaches, athletic directors and officials, along with former coaches and players; and potential best practices from other leagues that could be used by the SEC.

He will teach Herm Edwards how to win 6 games every year for the next decade and never win a bowl game.

Big Ten to name Jim Delaney's replacement on Tuesday.

Quote

The Big Ten will introduce the successor to Commissioner Jim Delany at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the conference office in Rosemont. Big Ten Network will air the news conference live.

A source with knowledge of the search said Monday he would be “shocked” if the choice is not Northwestern athletic director Jim Phillips. But those who know for certain, including Delany, have been compelled to keep it a secret.

Most industry observers viewed Phillips as the favorite once Delany, 71, announced in March that he would step down by June 2020. The brevity of the search also suggests it will be Phillips.

The rumor is that the Big Ten will name Vikings' COO Kevin Warren as the new commissioner.  Time to fire up the conference realignment threads...

Love that opening line in the article:

"Alcohol is likely coming to an SEC stadium near you."

As if there wasn't tons of alcohol already in SEC stadiums, in flasks, ziploc bags, etc.

These are the same people who got mad that Florida vs Georgia is called the "World's Largest Cocktail Party", so pretending people don't smuggle beer in every week is about right.

Starting in 2020, Las Vegas Bowl will get the #2 Pac-12 team.

It will also move to later in the bowl schedule too, after Christmas.

Quote

The new agreement will run from the 2020 game through the 2025 game and the Las Vegas Bowl will be move to a post-Christmas date for the first time. During those years, the Las Vegas Bowl will get the No. 2 selection (after the College Football Playoff selection) from the Pac-12 and share that position with the Holiday Bowl.

"We are excited to continue our partnership with the Las Vegas Bowl and to join with the SEC, Big Ten, Las Vegas Stadium, ESPN and LVCVA to take the Las Vegas Bowl to the next level of success in the years to come,” said Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott. “The experience of hosting some of our premier Pac-12 events in Las Vegas has been tremendous for our student-athletes, universities and fans, and to have the opportunity to play in such an incredible stadium against top quality competition on a national stage through ESPN will be welcomed by our student-athletes and fans."

The Las Vegas Bowl will share a spot with the Belk Bowl in the SEC “pool of six” that follows the CFP and Citrus selections and host a team here in 2020, ’22 and ’24.

The Las Vegas Bowl will share a Big Ten spot with the Music City Bowl after the CFP, Citrus and Outback selections and host a team here in 2021, ’23 and ’25.

They will also alternate between SEC and Big Ten opponents, as those two leagues will switch between Vegas and Charlotte (Belk Bowl) each year, starting in 2020.

Chris Steele, who left Florida after accusing the coaching staff of ignoring his request to change roommates -- I've heard rumors that the University has no request for a change of rooms on record, for what it's worth, but the school isn't allowed to comment on it because of a pending investigation -- is shunning Oregon and enrolling at USC, making him the second incoming freshman to transfer to USC (Bru McCoy being the other), which is a little shady.  Urban Meyer's doing work and Helton hasn't even been fired yet.

Remember that Bru McCoy started at USC this January and left after three weeks of classes to go to Texas only to desire to return to USC.  They both are So Cal players (St. John Bosco for Steele, Mater Dei for McCoy), so wanting to play closer to home isn't that shady since it is generally the primary reason why players in all NCAA sports decide to transfer.

EDIT:  Steele spoke on the phone with Tyson Alger of The Athletic today.  In the story, Steele mentioned that his mother is being laid off from her job on the16th with a school district and there is no guarantee his parents would be able to afford to travel to Eugene, thus he is going to USC.

Eh, whatever the reason. It's becoming increasingly likely the kid took a situation in which two girls were raped by his friend and used it for his own personal benefit (to get a waiver), throwing the Florida coaching staff, who can't defend themselves, under the bus.  I'm all for kids transferring and finding the best situations for themselves and I can sympathize with 18 year olds away from home for the first time but this kids a piece of crap (if it's true he made up the request to change roommates).

@McCarthy, please advise.

Marvin spoke with Schefter and basically described what I previously wrote about the restrictions placed on those without the title of "Assistant/Associate Coach or Graduate Assistant".

He details it in the first three minutes.
