Yeah but the meme legacy he's already left has been much bigger than Phanatic. Granted I'm only one sample, but I know quite a few non-sports fans who have showed me memes with Gritty in them. Gritty has been a "kewl meme" most which aren't that funny anymore (tho I did love one sign someone had at the mummers about the mayor with gritty) Again gritty is better than most of the other mascots the city has had, but make no mistake the Phanatic is the icon and a staple of the city. Kids LOVE the Phanatic, and he’s way more visible, as he’s on the dugout during the game, on the field in between innings, and all over the stands. Gritty is more on social media, a few appearances here and there, and limited appearances during the games. By its nature, baseball is more conducive to mascot involvement. Gritty is extremely popular with adults that are into social media and have a sense of humor, while Phanatic has a more well-rounded base. I prefer gritty, but would never say he’s more important than the Phanatic.
