If it wasn't for the gold outline, I can see why some folks say they look like the Orioles

It’s going to happen anytime teams share colors. But at the end of the day they won’t be playing each other wearing the same colors. Same “issue” has been brought up with Nebraska and Wisconsin, lightning and leafs and probably more. But every time there has been no issue of confusion.

The way to bypass the Giants/Orioles dilemma is for the Giants to be like the Yankees and only have two uniforms. No mistaking them that way.

In what scenario, other than the once every x years that they actually play each other, is a reasonable fan mistaking the Giants for the Orioles?  Let's not create a dilemma where one doesn't exist.

Last few times the Orioles and Giants have played each other, I'm pretty sure they swapped jersey colors on back-to-back nights. For example, a Friday night game would have O's in black/Giants in orange. The next night it was the reverse.

Not saying that it was confusing, just....interesting.

I like that the Giants played along, since the Orioles always wear black on Friday (regardless of location) and orange on Saturday (mostly at home but increasingly on the road).

Look, I'm not saying that one would literally mistake the Giants for the Orioles, just that the more separation you can manage in a somewhat unconventional (relative to R/W/B) color palette, the better. There's no reason for both teams to have orange alternates with black numbers, especially when the Giants' homes look so good and the roads can as well.

Orange jerseys for the Giants were a fun idea when they first came out (which was only really around 2009-2010 with this current set, if memory serves), but I would be absolutely fine with them mothballing them completely. They can toss those god awful black alts in there with them, too. Orange bulled caps also, if those haven’t been shelved already yet.

Just use the current home uniform, and the road set they used for the first title in 2010. That’s it. That’s the post.

Hmm. Tough one. I like the Giants orange alt because it feels like a real alternate, not just a recolor of a usual jersey of theirs -- it's a risky move but that's an example that works for me, though I think the gold trim and cream pants do it no favors and make it all look too icky-warm. But it's a cool script!

The black alt feels more "Giantsy" per the current conversation, but it's also ugly.

As long as the Orioles keep using orange for lettering, standard block, and a generally cartoony presence, that feels like enough separation. It's also good for the Giants because I really hate how that orange looks touching standard road-grey.

I think the black alts for both the Giants and O's look terrible and should be burned while their orange alts are magnificent and should be worn every game. I actually like the gold outlines on the Giants' alt, it gives it a fun distinction from other jerseys.

I loved that Giants script when I first saw it on early '80s baseball cards, and I love it even more today.  The shade of orange is perfect too.  I may love it even more on a black or white alt.

Me, when they brought that script back:

I've always thought of the Orioles as a primarily orange team with black accents and the Giants as a primarily black team with orange accents.

Even going back to the 90s when the Orioles were at their dullest, they still had more orange than the Giants:

You’re right... but I still love those orange giants jerseys.

I’m with you @406Cane! A pullover, yes, but deletes the warm tone trim and the head spoon that I don’t like on the other. I went to a Giants-Red Sox game once where Boston had their 70s red-hat throwbacks on at the same time and it looked great as far as heresy games go.

The gold trim and oversized script are part of what makes the modern version so great IMO.  I'd hate to give that up.

I'm indifferent to the headspoon.  It looks fine with, but might be better without.

I remember watching that one on TV. I think they had a throwback vs. fauxback against the Rays that year too. Great looking games, the both of them.
