MLB Changes 2020

Orange jerseys for the Giants were a fun idea when they first came out (which was only really around 2009-2010 with this current set, if memory serves), but I would be absolutely fine with them mothballing them completely. They can toss those god awful black alts in there with them, too. Orange bulled caps also, if those haven’t been shelved already yet.

Just use the current home uniform, and the road set they used for the first title in 2010. That’s it. That’s the post.

Amen.  When your regular uniforms look that good, you shouldn't clutter them up with alternates.

The Giants are right up there with the Yankees and Dodgers.  Or at least, they should be.

Neither the Yankees nor the Dodgers took a left turn at Albuquerque during the pullover era. The Giants did, and it’s a wonderful period-specific script to use as an alt. The Pirates could also be considered one of those teams, had they not mucked it up from the mid 70s-late90s (and now maybe again).

Well, if push comes to shove and they absolutely insist on it, I think the Giants could have a happy medium with their uniforms and represent both without muddying the look.

Use my idea for a home and road set, and designate an orange “fauxback” pullover (with the script and gold drop shadow) as an occasional alternate to be worn a handful of times throughout the year. Make it so it’s a bit more frequent than the Dodgers when they wear Brooklyn throwbacks, but not a weekly alt like they are now. Howabout maybe one series a month they bust out the orange pullover? That sounds about right to me.

I personally think the idea of ANY team having an alt uniform is good not just aesthetically, but also practically. I know Nike is backing their branding, and MLB teams have more money than God, so it may not be as big of an issue, but I know a LOT of lower level teams want alts simply because it gives their support staff more turnaround on laundry and uniform repairs. I can’t say for sure, but I’d imagine having another option is something support staff probably likes. It’s more to keep track of, but that’s a WAY easier job than doing laundry in a rush for a team full of dudes who have been sweating into doubleknits all day.

Sand is definitely a color I would not mind the Rangers introducing into their look.

Ideal Winnipeg Jets color scheme up there, actually.

How would they have enough time to set the rules for this, make the actual sales, and then get the actual patches in place in time for the 2020 season?

There's so much that goes into instituting a program like this before sales people even pick up the phone - unless they just say "f it" for 2020 and go lawless for that year while they work out the details for the future, I don't see it being possible.

owners trying to recoup lack of income from fans at stadiums. It's coming, like it or not. Hate it.

At least Boston can't choose to have Aunt Jemima on their jerseys.

The MLB has become one of the worst run leagues in America. No wonder ratings are going down and popularity is decreasing, everything has been a joke lately.

They can't figure out when to play and turn it into some CBA crap, Owners want ads, the Commissioner called the World Series Trophy a piece of metal, the Astros Scandal, etc.

Not to mention the players weekend uniforms, the ball being tinkered with to create more offense, and the treatment/salary of minor league players. It's becoming a cesspool.

How long before we have large ads across the chest a la soccer? The wordmarks will just be relegated to the top right corner.
