MLB Changes 2020

I'd put the BiG on the same level as the H-Star, the Blue Jays' '77-'96/'12-present bird, and the Cubs' geometric C. It just "says" the team in way that the Barley-M never could. While I'm not the biggest fan of it (heck, @NicDB's concept would be perfect for me), it has a brand equity that the Barley-M will never have.

The other two finalists are quite atrocious. So you can’t always go by fan vote, or fan drawings and such. But they did pick the correct winner. I have one of the caps. Great compliment to their other cap

I’m actually quite fond of both brewers identities. They work well together. I do feel they need to stick with one color though. Either royal blue glove or the dark navy blue glove. 

 

Ive always found the M wheat as more of a corporate identity. We see it with the miller park wordmark. Same M. So I don’t see the M as a real Milwaukee wordmark, but moreso who owns them. It’s the Miller Brewers, not Milwaukee. The glove doesn’t have any of that corporate stuff working with or against it. In its purest form, that’s true a Milwaukee brewer logo.

I was curious about the actual numbers this season, and as of this site (accurate as of August 31) the Brewers have won the navy/gold alt 1 44 times, while theyve worn the navy/yellow 25 times.  Theyve only worn the gold version 2 more times at home, however.

 

Last year they wore the gold version 57 total times and the yellow version 19 times...

 

EDIT:  Those numbers are only the normal versions of the jerseys.  This year, all of their holiday uniforms have been the BiG alternate (except for mothers day in which they used the road jersey).

I hate that ugly script M and every single thing about that uniform set. But for all the legit complaints I can list, that’s not a real one.

What if they used something like this as a sleeve patch?



As long as they're updating the glove, may as well update the state logo that accompanied it.

Interesting... I thought it'd be much closer.

Either way, they're trending towards more BiG in general.

I think you could take this set, replace the metallic gold with athletic gold and you’d have a perfect evolution of their current look for their next redesign.

 

EDIT: I do think however you’d need a primary cap with an “M” logo in the style of that script. Much as I love the Barrelman I think that logo is too busy to be used as their main cap logo.

@packerfan21396 I get what you're saying about the M/wheat being a better cap logo for the Brewers...I get it, conceptually. The problem is the current logo is very much a poor rendering of the concept. 

 

First, the colours. The trend towards darkening and muting colours is reversing, and the Brewers' navy and old gold looks like a relic of the early/mid 2000s. 

The second problem is the style. The Brewers' M/wheat cap logo features both a drop shadow and an outline. It's too much clutter. You can have one or the other, but not both. 

 

So I do approve of the idea or a M/wheat cap logo being used in place of the ball and glove, but the current version isn't the best choice.
