I feel like we had this discussion a while ago where I said I'm good with dropping Chief Wahoo going forward but don't want to see them do things like airbrush the logo out of old pictures, blur it out of footage, things like that to act like it never happened. You said that that was a silly concern and that they can't/shouldn't change history. Now they are changing depictions of history and you're saying that it's Actually Good. It's not exactly the same but it's certainly in the spirit of what I outlined.

A video game depiction is not usually seen as apart of the historical record. Leaving Wahoo out of The Show is not an attempt to airbrush history. It’s a choice made by a design studio or the provider of their league license to keep a controversial symbol out of a commercial product.

This board would crap its pants if the video game throwback of the 1936 Cardinals had the wrong serif on a 2. I'm supposed to believe that straight-up deciding to get a uniform wrong is the right thing to do?

So I've had some time to process the Padres new identity, and I have to say i like the thought that the primary road jersey is the brown one and the sand uni is the road alt.

I know some people might not agree, but in cases where its not color v. color a primary road uni not gray/sand/neutral is a fresh take and I hope more teams consider it.

Being historically accurate is better than pretending something never happened. Saying something existed does not 'promote' anything. Also, there will be more conversation about it now that they decided to leave it out. Had they just left them in, nobody would be talking about it.

We still talking about the video game right? I love that game, but it's still just a video game... I can understand why SCEA and/or MLB likely said "just keep it out of the game to avoid the issue entirely." Since it's just a video game it's ok to take the safe and/or easy route. Let people complain about the inaccuracy of the jersey in the game, it's better that than someone complaining about a video game having a potentially racist logo in it because, again, it's just a video game. They won't lose out on sales because the logo isn't in the game just like they won't gain any sales by keeping the logo in.

I agree. Using the brown jersey as the road jersey is a good move, even if it is a bit different. But, the Padres kind of set themselves to have the best of both worlds by still having a more traditional road set as their alt. That way if enough people fuss about it (They likely won't), all they have to do is change the designation of each uniform and they're good to go.

Is there any functional point to the Padres designating their brown jersey as their primary road jersey? It’s not like there is a limit to how often an MLB team can wear an alt. There are plenty of examples of teams wearing alts more often than their official primary home/away uniform.

Functional purpose? No. It’s pretty much them just being honest about wearing the colored top most. A number of teams wear colored alts as much if not more than their standard “road uniform,” but San Diego is the first to straight up admit that it’s become the primary road at this point

For what it's worth, I think that this cap is absolutely gorgeous:

I really hope the Diamondbacks continue to use this cap. Before they removed the snake scaled gradient, this was the only cap in the set worth wearing.
