I'm surprised customizing pads like this haven't really caught on considering Kelly Hrudey did this way back in 96-98. Not totally sure what year that picture is from. I mean, a ravenously hungry shark did describe Dell's save percentage in the playoffs last year...all the pucks went right through where the shark's maw is and into the back of the net.

They managed to successfully circumvent Reebok's "vision" in 2007 by retaining their distinctive hem-stripes but screwed things up with that obtrusive & unnecessary phantom yoke. Every decision since then has been a downgrade with the exception of mothballing the Team Canada-esque atrocity. And even the current home is downgrade from what they originally had. Why downplay the hurricane-warning striping and why minimize the silver? Bring this set back and update the shoulder patch. This isn't hard.

If anything I hope it's a sign they're committing to the throwbacks full time soon. 1 hour ago, M4One said: I'm surprised customizing pads like this haven't really caught on considering Kelly Hrudey did this way back in 96-98. Customized pads used to be a huge thing back in the day. That was before most goalies just started ordering team coloured versions of stock catalogue designs. Even Brian's, which used to be the company that had the most customized designs among NHL goalies, shifted to the same catalogue full of randomly coloured shards everyone else was using. I partially blame Adidas buying Reebok, which bought up CCM, Koho, and Heaton. Bauer, Brian's, and Vaugn are still around, and you're more likely to see custom gear on goalies who wear that stuff (like we see with Dell's new set from Brian's) but it seems like they mostly followed market leader Reebok when it comes to the same broad "random shards" designs most goalie wear.

No black in the anniversary logo despite black being part of the team's colors for 60% of the time is pretty telling. does that mean we will see a white retro jersey?

Bauer is doing crazy things with printing intricate designs on pads. Personally, I hate the look of these pad designs (it’s way too much for me) and prefer the more traditional pads, but check out some of Bauer’s “DigiPrint” Technology if that’s your thing.

B-mer 983 Posted August 20, 2019 So the diagonal "CANES" rumor was accurate... I mean, i don't hate them. They look fine. But seems more like an alternate. It seems they're becoming obsessed with recoloring their main logo. it looks fine but doesn't make sense to do that on the helmet.
Beantown77 187 Posted August 20, 2019 That leak was true. These are an abomination.

It's not awful...but they should have done a better job of matching it to the homes. It almost seems like a homage to the 90s Penguins logo/diagonal sets.
dgnmrwrw 124 Posted August 20, 2019 Good god, I know I'm supposed to hate it, but I don't. I'm definitely suffering from homerism here, and I've always had a soft spot for wordmarks on hockey jerseys (always liked the Pens' PITTSBURGH and the Stars' DALLAS), but I don't hate it. I'll need to see more, cleaner pics and definitely see them on the ice, but I think it's a slight upgrade. Don't like the exclusion of the primary logo, but it's better than what we had been wearing. I don't hate it. Now everyone shout at me and tell me I'm wrong.

frosty06306 176 Posted August 20, 2019 As a Canes fan, it's a massive step over the old roads. Like them a good bit, though as mentioned elsewhere itt I'd go back to our inaugural kits in a heartbeat.
VDizzle12 1,555 Posted August 20, 2019 Switch "Canes" to "Carolina" and you have a winner. Good design, but I hate everything about abbreviated nicknames.

FiddySicks 11,357 Posted August 20, 2019 Now THAT, is trash. The most frustrating thing is that it's actually a nice jersey that's a HUGE improvement over their old road jersey. But then they had to completely ruin it by adding the wordmark and making themselves look like the Redneck Rangers.
