Brian Burke Would Have Changed Ducks To Patriots

Recommended Posts

In fairness, the Minutemen name has a tie-in to the Independence Hall replica in Buena Park.

I seem to remember @TruColor being a bit stunned upon the unveiling, because he had the official PANTONE values for the Ducks rebrand in advance, and they were dark green, orange, and copper/bronze. Burkie had other ideas late in the process, apparently.

Dark green instead of black would have been an awesome look.

I recall a lot of the leaked logos using green in some capacity. I also recall liking them a lot more than the final product. Oh, what could have been :(

The switch to black, beige, and orange was not great, but the half-measures they've taken to get out of it have made them even worse than they were to begin with, as these half-measures often go.

These are absolutely hideous, bottom of the league for sure.

I completely agree. Compared to the rest of the league, the busy stripes and garish side panels are embarassing to look at, let alone wear.

That said, I appreciate the attempt to inject some life back into the identity.

More like what kind of drugs was Burke on?

That was my reaction. What military bases are around Anaheim?

Burke had a hardon for West Point. Apparently the original plan for the Ducks’ redesign was to use forest green, orange, and gold but Burke changed it at the last minute to black, orange and gold to better match West Point’s colour scheme.

As admiral said? We had users here in the know who were shocked when the Ducks’ new primary colour ended up being black and not green. It was a Burke-mandated change as late into process as possible.

It seems like the West Point colour scheme was a consolation prize for Burkey after he couldn’t convince ownership to be the Warriors, Patriots, or Minutemen.

What is it with NHL execs and West Point anyway? Between Burke and the knob who owns the Knights...

And don't forget Panthers owner and momentary Secretary of the United States Army nominee Vinnie Viola.

It's my experience that being a military obsessive is kind of a tell-tale sign that they didn't actually serve and if they did they didn't see serious action because my friends and family who did are extremely reticent about their time in war.

This might be off topic but I have seen many instances on the road here in Arizona with cars that have the special licence plate, "Arizona veteran" with all the military stickers, DTOM, blue line on the flag, and rebel flag seem to think that because they have all of that they have the license to be an :censored: on the road.  Which makes me wonder if they really did serve or are pretending like the guys you all are mentioning.

They like the “all military, all the time” attitude, but they don’t want to associate with the “plebian” enlistees. Again, some of it is appealing to commonly-accepted symbols of masculine power. I’d be curious to see how many of these man are dealing with inadequacies.

The guys at Regular Car Reviews (my favorite YouTube channel) pointed out that type of guy several times. They outlined the “all military, all the time guy” and the “former military ‘sovereign citizen’ uncle” types. These are truly terrible people to deal with on a regular basis.

Burke always claimed Camp Pendleton as part of the Ducks' efforts. Had player trips down there to visit with troops multiple times. In OC, there's the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training and Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach. Yes, Pendleton borders OC to the South, but Burke is reaching there, especially considering the Gulls weren't close to Ducks property yet. And, as I said earlier, the two in-OC installations of Los Alamitos and Seal Beach aren't nearly enough to claim some sort of "military culture" in the area to justify the names he wanted to use.

As per usual, it's Burke blowing smoke. He's the Donald Trump of hockey management.

Arizona breeds a special kind of awful I’ve never seen anywhere else in the country. They’re basically the south without any of the charm or good BBQ.

Probably the angriest state. Minnesota is second-angriest, they just bottle it up.

It’s the weather extremes. A bit easier to hold back in the cold, but it’ll eventually make you snap.

Having lived in the Phoenix metro area from 2005-2017ish I could attest to that.  I moved to Nogales and then recently Tucson.  I have noticed that Southern Arizonans are more chill on the road which is good.

I used to have a neighbor like this and he was the absolute worst. All of his clothes were oversized fatigues he got at the BX (not even sure how he got them as he was about Tank’s size), and he blabbed relentlessly about all of the “confirmed and unconfirmed kills” he had when he was in the military (considering his age, this would’ve been around the time of Desert Storm so, lol). I probably took more joy than I should’ve when his mom outed him to everyone that he was never in the military, and never even tried to join. His sad excuse was that he was “secret special ops” and even his family couldn’t know because it was just so top secret.

Why are are people like this?

In my experience people who saw legit action in the military are very hesitant to talk about it and don't like it brought up. But someone who unloaded trucks in Germany for 2 years in the 90s is like SUPPORT ARE TROOPS HOO RAH all the time
