The Nats are actually playing good. It would be something to see them in the post-season and not Bryce Harper.

I think most projections had them finishing above the Phillies, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch if / when that happens.

The Giants are 51-50. That's just crazy.

Apparently, the Giants' fall and rise coincided with the arrival and departure of KD from the Warriors. As somebody who has always preferred baseball to basketball, I like it!

Granted, this now leaves the team in an awkward position concerning the trade deadline and rebuilding.

Sort of. I've always thought that they should resign Bumgarner anyway, so this may be a blessing in disguise. I have a feeling that extra bit of compensation teams have to give out now will end up putting Bumgarner in a similar position to Kimbrel and Keuchel. He may be better off returning to the Giants on a deal that's still very good, but maybe just slightly sub optimal.

Will Smith, though? Trade him. Unless they go into the final few days of this month absolutely melting from how on fire they are, it's probably best to be realistic about this season.

I'll regret saying this when they're lifting up their fourth World Series trophy this decade (Once and for all cementing them as the team of the 2010s) later this year 😎

Michael. Nelson. Trout. 11 home runs in the last 13 games and added a laser beam throw last night:

And I don’t want to leave out Kole “potential trade bait” Calhoun, who hit the eventual winning home run and ended the game on this:

3-0 against the Dodgers this year, and the Angels are... hanging around? 53-49 and 5 games back in the Wild Card. They’re not out of it, but they’re also not gaining any ground.

There’s definitely been a much different energy to this team after the Break, but we’ll see.

In a deal announced Thursday, DraftKings will be an “Authorized Gaming Operator” of Major League Baseball, paying the league for official data.

The deal’s terms were not disclosed, but we know it will give DraftKings the right to use league and team logos on their betting platforms, both online and retail.

Getting official data from the league should increase the speed, which will also help DraftKings offer more dynamic in-game bets such as pitch-by-pitch betting, which will allow the operator to offer enhanced live-betting options to consumers.

DraftKings is MLB’s second authorized gaming operator. The first was MGM, which became the league’s national sponsor in November, 2018.

Sources said more standalone deals like DraftKings were expected to be inked in the next couple of weeks.

Orioles 10, Angels 8 in 16 innings.  The game ended about 20 minutes before I got out of bed this morning . . . on the East Coast.

This was a lot like the Chris Davis game against the Red Sox in 2012 . . . right down to the Orioles throwing out the winning run at the plate in the second-to-last inning.

If Red Sox had any semblance of pitching, they'd be competing for best record instead of the Wild Card.

The offense is as good, if not better than last year.

They've got a better rotation than the Yankees do at the moment, that's for sure. You can look at the records all you want, but unless both Severino and a trade acquisition are made (an impactful one, not just getting some Tom/Dick/Harry #4-type), the Yankees aren't going anywhere in October. The Astros, Indians, and Red Sox all have multiple starting pitchers better than the Yankees' best one.

There starting rotation is one of the best in the majors, it’s there bullpen that is absolute crap. The starter will have them in a lead in the 6th come out the 7th and then the bullpen pitches it away. I’ve seen it way too often this year.

The Twins don't have as tight of a grip on the AL Central as I thought; Cleveland really is just right behind them. I thought this team exhausted their chances at competing, but they're still in the race this year.

Are they still trying to move Bauer? I don't follow the Indians so I don't know the reason as to why they've reportedly considered this. How deep is their pitching?

The Indians' lack of competitiveness early in the season had a few things involved, but none of them were really the natural end of a contention window — this has always been a six-year contention window for the Tribe, starting with 2016 and aligning with the six years of team control for Francisco Lindor and the end of Corey Kluber's contract.

I don't think the Indians are actively trying to move Bauer, but would deal him for the right package. Bauer is a free agent after next season, and has said that he'll sign one-year contracts with the highest bidder every offseason once he hits free agency. He'll also be due a good amount of money next year in arbitration, and the Tribe still have some level of financial constraints. Both of those mean he's likely not staying with the club after the 2020 season.

There's also the roster construction side of things, which is why they were shopping him and Kluber over the offseason in the first place. If healthy and performing, the Indians have an absurd starting rotation — Shane Bieber and Mike Clevinger are both aces; then you'd have Bauer, Kluber and Carlos Carrasco. That doesn't include a maybe-healthy Danny Salazar, nor does it have room for Zach Plesac, who has a 1.4 WAR in 11 starts as a rookie. Even now, with Carrasco, Kluber and Salazar all (currently) out of the picture, Bauer is the No. 3 starter on this team. He also hasn't pitched quite as well as he did last year. If Kluber comes back from his broken arm next month and looks remotely like his "old" self, and the rest of the rotation stays healthy, the Indians don't need Bauer to have postseason success — Bieber, Clevinger, good Kluber and Carrasco/Plesac/Salazar is still the best playoff rotation in the American League, as it stands now.

The lineup is also probably not as good as it looks right now, and doesn't have recognized top-end hitters outside of Lindor, Jose Ramirez and Carlos Santana. This recent run has been bolstered by some young outfielders having good runs — while I enjoy what Greg Allen, Oscar Mercado and Tyler Naquin have done at the plate, the Indians shouldn't want to go to October with that as their starting outfield. There's absolutely the need for a couple bats in this squad, and that's what's holding them up.

At the end of the day, I think they would move Bauer at this deadline for two young, controllable MLB bats — think two of Hunter Renfroe, Franmil Reyes and Luis Urias from San Diego, for example. I doubt an offer on that level's coming, but with the injury uncertainty at the back of the rotation, I think they wait until the winter to make this kind of move for one MLB bat.

Looks like the Blue Jays are trading Stroman to the Mets of all places.  That one's a head scratcher unless he's going to be part of a package elsewhere or as a replacement for Wheeler and Vargas who should be dealt by the deadline anyway.
