“de Grom homers, strikes out 13 in Mets loss” is the perfect encapsulation of his last few seasons.

This is depressingly accurate

So the Reds made it to August 24th playing meaningful games. That's an improvement over the last few seasons when things were wrapped up by end of May.

Still chasing that 1-8 start, still chasing their abysmal record against the crappy Pirates.

I went to the Mariners/Blue Jays game yesterday. Since Toronto got good (and even though they stink again), Blue Jays games in Seattle has meant a rapid, overwhelming influx of Canadians in downtown Seattle. The game yesterday may well have been 60/40 Blue Jays/Mariners fans, and it was kind of weird to hear such load cheers when the visiting team got a hit or made a good defensive play. On the whole though, it made for a great atmosphere, bettered by the fact Seattle won. Worsened, though, by the stupid black and white uniforms. All of the Blue Jays fans were wearing the brilliant blue road jersey, while their team was wearing stupid white on the field. What a joke.

Have we talked about the Royals flying to Boston to make up a suspended extra-innings game against the Red Sox last week, only for it to (predictably) be over with after four outs and 12 minutes? Great trivia question someday, but what a ridiculous thing.

and why couldn't they have called it a tie (or have waited to see if they needed to make this up on the Monday after the season was done since both teams are not going to make the playoffs as of now)

so long and thanks for all the fish.

Aristedes Aquino hit his 13th home run last night. That's in 100 career plate appearances. New MLB record.

What I like most about this guy is not just that he's crushing taters and looks like Eric Davis, both in swing and number, but that he's also spreading the ball around field, working counts, playing good defense, all things that portend that this hot streak is more sustainable than a guy just having a good first month.

Try visiting Camden Yards when the Yanks or Sox are in town. I went to an O’s-Yankees game earlier this year with some buddies and the split was probably closer to 70/30, if not more lopsided. It’s kinda depressing.

This is true. I view it as there just simply being much more Red Sox and Yankees fans in general, compared to Orioles fans... even counting in the state of Maryland (I don't know the stats on that though). Not to mention traveling from either Boston or New York (mostly New York) isn't that far so you'll get folks from up there coming to games.

Even when the Orioles were the top team in the division back in 2014, the Red Sox-Orioles game I went to was maybe 60/40 O's.

Spoiler

FWIW, the times I went to Camden Yards when New York and Boston were in town, both the Yanks and Sox fans were relatively friendly towards other O's fans... at least from what I saw.

Current owner is an old, rich Wal Mart schlub who lives in Arkansas and wants to stay there. Interested party is a Kansas City businessman. The deal makes sense, and I don't think indicates anything about them struggling. They're apparently worth $1 billion.

Jeez, if a midmarket KC is worth a billion dollars, imagine what some of the top tier teams look like.

I'd like to know what the real valuation of the Yankees would be. $10-$20 billion seems insane, but would that really be out of the question? This whole thing is insane at this point. That figure might even be significantly LOWER than what they would sell for.

FWIW, Forbes valued the Yankees at $4.6B back in April. If they ever went up for sale, I think twice that value would not be an unreasonable ask.

There's so much to consider with a club like the Yankees. Not only do they have an insane amount of holdings outside of just the team, they also have one of the most recognizable brands in the world. Their NY logo alone holds a certain value that I'm not even sure you could truly quantify at this point.

It's better to make it up now in case there are 3 teams tied for the last wildcard slot next month.
