The 8-2 Mariners (currently up 7-1 over Chicago in the top of the 3rd) are murdering the baseball and scoring buckets of runs.

They'll eventually cool off -- right?? -- but this is fun for now.

I was visiting friends in Chicago this weekend and went to the M’s/Sox game Saturday. They’re clearly going to cool off, but I liked that lineup. They should keep mashing the ball to some degree for most of the season.

They're bad, but they're not this bad. Their pythagorean W/L is 3-6. They can't seem to get a hit with RISP, they can't get an out with RISP. Everyone was cold at the plate for 7 games, but the pitching was holding teams to 1 and 2 runs. Now they're hitting and the pitching drifted back to normal.

They were supposed to be competitive this year, a .500 team, playoff contenders if everything went right. Nothing's gone right and they'll end up chasing this slow start the rest of the season. Play .500 ball from here and they'll still be selling their big offseason pickups at the deadline. Season's effectively over ten games in and it's one of the biggest letdowns I can remember. They're now buried in a tough division.

I'm gonna take up woodworking or learn to play guitar. Sports are only for people from Boston and Pittsburgh, for some reason.

EDIT: Also Chris Archer is one of the biggest hotdogs on a pitching mound, yet a guy he's previously shown up with some strike out dance antics admires his home run and Archer gets bent out of shape about it. Eat a fart.

I'll never understand how players like him are content on having their talent wasted on such a team.

They live in the area + good paycheck? I've always wondered if some baseball players prefer not making the playoffs, since their offseason starts earlier and they still get paid.

Trout definitely could have gotten the same if not more if he was willing to become a FA.

It's just a shame such a legendary player is willing to have there career wasted when they could be winning Championships on another team.

Larry Fitzgerald is another one of the players, I don't think anyone would fault him for signing a 1 year deal with Patriots/Chiefs/Saints/Cowboys etc. Just to finally get a ring.

IDK whether to respect such loyalty, or feel bad that they'll never get what they deserve.

Maybe they are guys who are just satisfied with being in the league and getting paid. There's some tennis players that I suspect are very much the same based on their attitudes. But I think a lot of players might want that legacy of being associated with one franchise rather than "ring chasing." It's kind of like how Shaq kept moving from team to team in his last years, clearly just following LeBron around hoping for one more ring.

Also, staying with one team your entire career sets you up for an easy post-playing career in that market.

I would imagine having something like that to look forward to in LA/SoCal of all places factored into Mike Trout's decision.

So if someone puts 450M in front of him, he’s supposed to say “nah I’m good, I’ll test the market in a year or two” then risk getting injured and seeing none of that? That’s godsdamned stupid. You sign that contract 8 days/week - even if it had a clause that explicitly stated that the team wouldn’t be signing any more good players or even trying.

He WAS looking to walk, and the Angels knew that, so they stepped up. It’s absurd by any line of reasoning to expect him to pass on that deal. Just stupid.

Since his call-up in 2017, Rhys Hoskins is tied with Trout for most HR and BB in all of MLB.

I saw him in person working for the Pigs (their AAA affiliate) and he always looked to be the more polished, pro-ready prospect compared to his "Bash Brother" batterymate in Cozens.

Cozens is still woefully inconsistent, but his power cannot be scoffed at. All Dylan needs is consistent plate patience. He's slowly getting the hang of taking walks and playing the count in his favor; but it needs to happen more consistently.

I had to add this here before I check in for the night.

Today marks the ten year anniversary of the tragic death of former Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart. I absolutely cannot believe it’s already been ten years since that happened, and I honestly think about it at least once a season. I was at the game the night before his death, and it’s such a shame to think about what his career would’ve been like and that he never got the opportunity to live his life as a big leaguer. Very few sports related deaths have made me as sad as that one did.

Don’t drink and drive. RIP Nick.

Every Phillies bullpen meltdown brings them closer to overpaying Craig Kimbrel.  I freaking hate the idea of giving a reliever multiple years and big money, but I think they feel that they are ready to go for it this year, and will do it.

They're one of the teams that don't believe in the closer role, but might have to bend on that.

The greatest baseball team of all time, aka the 2019 Seattle Mariners, are now 12-2 and have hit dingers in each of their games.

I'm going to a home game this Sunday -- hope they don't blow it by then!

For anyone that cares, Philadelphia will host 2026 ASG. No surprise.
