Looks like they tried too hard to incorporate black. It appears as if they added black armbands usually used to mourn the death of some prominent figure.

What color are those helmet stripes? The stylized helmet obviously doesn't match what they're holding.

EDIT:  After looking at the picture of the players with "Roary", I'd say it's a center white stripe, flanked by a thin black stripe, with a blue stripe on the outside.

Man, if the Raiders think they have a claim against the Bucs and the Panthers for "similar" uniforms, Carolina for sure has a slam dunk against Detroit.  The black stripes and especially the black facemask are just so very unnecessary.  I don't understand how this makes the Lions' uniforms any more appealing.  It's not that I am 100% against adding black to a uniform; it's just the manner in which many teams are adding it that really irritates me.  

If anything, the Lions could have added a darker blue rather than black to try to enhance the uniform.  Prior to the 70's the Lion's primary color was actually a darker shade, so bringing that back together with the Honolulu blue would have made more sense to me.

You know what, I completely agree with you.  I can't get used to them.  A darker blue would have been perfect, like a navy blue, but they bombed on these.  They're just not original.  They remind me too much of Carolina's thirds.  Carolina pulled it of (I think), but Detroit makes it look stupid.

Hello? There was nothing wrong with the jerseys (that a darker blue wouldn't help), but what's wrong is the blue blob! Can they PLEASE have an illustrator make that look like a real lion?

Instead, they got rid of what was right and kept what was wrong.

Bad job. Should have kept the uniforms they had. in fact, they should have made the jersey's just like the throwbacks they've been wearing for thanksgiving. Those plain honolulu blue uniforms with the silver numbers are HOT! Plain silver pants, plain blue jersey with silver numbers, and the helmet coulsd have been left alone and i think you had a winning uniform there. These are bad. The helmet looks good, but other than that....ugh....

Actually, if you take away the white and black border, it really does look like a lion silhouette - the same one that's been on the helmet for at least the last 50 years.  The border was added back in the 70's (when they lightened up the blue) and I've always found it unnecessary.  I think it would look better if the border was dropped altogether.

for those of you who forgot, here is my Detroit Lions concept that Ive done

as far as the real thing goes, the stripes on the sleeves look tacky, they should have stayed simple. the numbers look good, and the helmet logo does as well. however there is no need for collar striping whatsoever and WHY THE BLACK FACEMASK? the honolulu blue facemask would have worked just fine!

The jersey and pants I'm not real thrilled with, but I can get over it...it's the black facemask I'm having trouble with. There surely could have been a way to keep the Honolulu Blue facemask

As long as the pant stripes match the helmet stripes, these are awesome. One of the best jobs of adding black I have ever seen.

i think the whites look great, and the blues look forced.  the black facemask is way forced.  but what i find most perplexing, is why does that mascot look so drunk?

Gods these are bad. I mean terrible. Why? WHY??!!! Everybody just stop the unecessary changes!!! They're friggin Carolina now. They had such an original, recognizable look. It was simple but one of the best unis in the league, one that DIDN'T NEED BLACK!!! They just look so bad now, so un-original. The helmet logo looks aweful outlined in black, and let's not forget the facemask. Man this just pisses me off so bad, I just wanna reach through the screen and choke Lions management. I mean there is NO way you could make me belive that the fans actually want this. It's unclassy and boring; dumbed down. Poor Joey Harrington, he had such a bright career ahead of him, but now he's cursed to look like that...
