Not to be a stickler (who are we kidding the whole CCSL Community is a bunch of guys who obsess on details),

The Bills kept the Blue Facemask with the Red Helmet through the 96 Season. They didn't switch to White until 1997, if you look at any pics of Jim Kelly's rookie season you will see the facemasks were still Blue.

Nothing wrong with being a stickler.

I'm surprised at my typo tho'.  Kelly's first ever game I believe was a preseason game at KC, and the Bills still had the blue away pants. They were gone by the start of the regular season. The blue facemask did in fact go away AFTER the 1986 season.

LoL ... by 1997 Kelly was in retirement-mode.

The white facemask replaced the blue one by the start of the 1987 season ..

No in game photos, guys?

I'll share a few that show the vast differences in color Appearance

How does one helmet look brighter than the others a mere 2 inches apart?

I can't say that I'm a fan. The color range will almost always force the green on the jersey to never match.

Anyone seen these in person?

Has there ever been a NFL helmet that has so many shades, based on lighting conditions? Maybe I'm overlooking things.

The white jerseys look pretty good, but there’s just something about that green jersey that looks WAY off. It not being a great match to the helmet is part

of it, but that’s not even my main issue. It may just be the QB cut those guys are wearing, but that thing looks wonky as all hell. It also seems to have a similar issue to the previous jets set where it’s just too dark and almost comes across as olive.

The Giants' helmet can look different shades based on lighting and other conditions. The mid 90s' Jets helmets ('96-97) were kinda similar, though slightly less metallic I think.

The helmet photo above is camera technology focusing on the nearest helmet, while blurring out the other two, which gives it the mirage that the nearest one is different...but look how sharp the nearest helmet is compared to how blurry the others are.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Focus wouldn’t affect color, exposure, or balance, though, and any adjustment to those settings should theoretically affect the entire image, not just a single element within it.

Either that particular helmet is a dud (maybe a bad batch of paint or something went wrong in the process of painting or refinishing it), or there’s something dark sitting next to it, out of frame.

I still don't have a website, but I have a dribbble now! http://dribbble.com/andyharry

Do teams have to wait five years (or however long) if the only change they wanted to make was the paint finish of the helmets? I think the Jets helmets would look a lot better had they gone with a satin finish similar to the Vikings.

The Bucs had these stupid horn things painted onto their helmets the first year they released their current disaster. They wore them for part of the preseason that year, and by the first regular season game, I’m pretty sure they were gone.

Can you show me a photo to illustrate this?

Pre-1997 Broncos' helmet looked several different colors. It didn't have the Jets' issue where parts of the helmet look different from others. Almost wonder if there may be a low-key gradient going on there.

No, it’s the finish. The high gloss and candy metallic paint will look brighter where light hits it and almost black where it doesn’t.

They were the black “cannon ball streaks” that basically went along the ridges of the top of the revo speed helmets. Any other helmet that didn’t have the ridges it stuck out like a sore thumb so they got rid of it.

supposed to be cannon ball streaks, right?

Yes, which, come to think of it... Is that even a real thing?

I think the goal was to have them resemble rough pewter metal, but mich like the execution of the Jaguars black/gold helmet it flopped.

I greatly anticipate the day when the Bucs get a Vikings-esque "less is more" treatment and suddenly become one of the best looking teams in the league.

Dare to dream.

I have an entire big long rant about this and what I'd bet is going to unfortunately happen, but I'll spare you.
