I wore my Cherbet and Pennington jersey all the time as a kid, the numbers began to fade. Yeah they’ve had many bad embarrassing breaks but who hasn’t? Now what, they’re gonna throw everything away for something “new, exciting, and fire emojis”? Come on man. I don’t wanna hear “team has bad history, we should change the uniforms to erase it”. The Browns are all bad history and look what they wear now! The best part about them were their previous classic uniforms but now they have the worst uniforms in football today, probably in NFL history. No one is as bad as Tampa Bay. It's the same exact uniform. And going by what you just said, they should've never gone away from the 80's/90's look because of a little "bad history". Instead, they went back to an old atrocious look in a very gimmicky, Al Bundy-esque attempt to relive a very short "glory days" from 30 years prior. Made no sense. DouglasQuaid
The jets should of went with wider numbers on the shoulders like the raiders. They fill the space better and nike redesign tv numbers are too small.
Old School Fool
I vaguely remember the 90's look from football cards and Madden '98 on Playstation as a little kid and thought it was a lame look. It's funny because I'm 28 now and I think it actually was a sharp look. I sort of remember the 1998 change, I was at an arcade and saw NFL Blitz '99 with the Jets then new look. I was confused as to why the Namath era logo was there, I didn't hear anything about that happening. I was just a kid but I knew Joe Namath from videos and books I saw. I thought it was cool that it was back especially since I wasn't even alive when it was around the first time. I feel like the look has ran it's course by now and is just associated with sucking ass. It's unfortunate it had to end up that way.

Brian E
just want to echo @bringbackthevet and @insert name's comments here. when they went to this design prior to the 1998 season, it really did feel like a breath of fresh air. i was in 9th grade when they made that AFC title game run, so i grew up with that coslett/kotite look. while i've always loved the '80s-'90s era logo, the uniform set was starting to show it's age. the original set of the fauxbacks were made by starter, and they were nice. and even the first nike version looked pretty wonderful. when they drafted sam this year, i found an old nike authentic from the turn of the century and customized it. even the retail authentics were pretty beautiful. but the current (soon-to-be former) set really started to go downhill when reebok took over, and turned into an downright embarrassment under nike. it only needs two tweaks to work: a lightening of the green, whether it's going back to the 1998 shade of the forrest or reverting back to kelly, and a fixing of the truncated UCLA stripes. i would argue that it would benefit from a better helmet logo, too, but that's more of a personal preference thing. It's unfortunate it had to end up that way. I remember how I found out about the new/old logo. I went to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton during the summer of 1998 (I wanna say August). They had all the team setups with full-sized helmets in plastic cases (difficult to explain, but it was this 8-foot-tall thing with pictures and text explaining the given team's history, and the helmet right in the middle). They still had the 1990-97 helmet for the Jets, and I decided to pose with it (in this age before cell phone cameras, you could only take so many pictures). So somewhere around the house there is a picture of me, aged 14, in a '90s Flying Elvis Patriots Starter jacket (Parcels/Bledsoe Pats were the first team I followed), standing underneath a big green Jets helmet. Anyway, we went to the gift shop at the end, and my parents let me pick out two pocket pro helmets. I picked the Seahawks (always liked their original helmet) and was looking at the other teams when I noticed they had (what I thought was) the Namath-era Jets helmet. I picked it up and noticed that the ones behind it were the standard green that they had been wearing. I thought, "Oh, cool, they're selling a throwback!" Remember, this was a time when you couldn't find a throwback helmet in a store, even the HOF gift shop. So that was my second pick. ...aaaaand then when football season began, I noticed that the Jets were wearing the helmet I had just gotten, and I kind if wished I'd gotten the green one instead, since I liked the design better and it would now be hard to find. But those modernized throwback uniforms did look pretty sweet the first few seasons.

_DietDrPepper_
The look is better than half the nfl, I don’t mind the change, it’s old and signifies a bad era of jets football. I guess. But I have high doubts it’ll be better than the ones they have now. The current uniform is a lot better than people give it credit for. Especially in a universe full of Bucs, Jags(old) and Browns. AstroCree
Maybe I went overboard with the Browns comment but the point stands that it's a bad uniform. Man, I gotta get my mind off this topic. The wait is killing me more than the eventual reveal. I'm gonna miss these uniforms man.

Especially in a universe full of Bucs, Jags(old) and Browns. it might be an older look, but it probably represents the most successful era of jets football, buttfumble notwithstanding. 21 seasons. 7 of the franchise's 14 playoff appearances ('98, '01, '02, '04, '06, '09, '10) 2 of the franchise's 4 division titles ('98, '02) 3 of the franchise's 4 AFC title* games ('98, '09, '10) * not including the '68 AFL title game. in fact, the jets made the playoffs 7 of their first 13 years in the fauxback set. the current eight-year playoff-less run has weighed it down (7 of the 8 of those are in the latest nike era, when the look really went down the can, FWIW). Curtis Martin was a great RB, but he never had the personality to carry his legacy like Broadway Joe. (which is why he's also one of the most underrated RBs in history). all that to say, there's not a lot that sticks with me from the Jets in this fauxback uniform. maybe thats the whole reason they want to change? i think there was a point in the 90s where it was like "remember SB3 and all that NFL Films good stuff? lets bring it back!". then that wears off, for no good reason according to those numbers; but when you dont have any significant success (SB win) or franchise players or defining moments, people start looking back again and saying "remember the 80s when they wore all green? that was cool" GRAPHIC ARTIST BEHANCE / MEDIUM / DRIBBBLE

ephoph
Teams that have any post season success are a result of coaching and players can we knock off the 'uniforms are tied to success' narrative? its weird seattle supersonics were in the finals in the 90s with what could be the most unappealing logo/color/uniform in the history of mankind so lets stop its as simple as this: Jets uniforms blow dogs for quarters and time to be changed thanks
Bmac
I'm shocked by all the sudden dislike of the Jets uniforms, a side from the Nike template errors. Are people just bored? Their current look is essentially "the look" for the franchise. Change it to Kelly green and you're set. https://www.behance.net/bmatukewic8043
