Your Team's Non-Corporate Stadium Names

Recommended Posts

Let's have a little fun. With the majority of sports stadiums, arenas and ballparks named with a corporate sponsor ... what would you want YOUR team's venue to be called if corporate names weren't allowed?

Here are mine ...

Utah Jazz - Salt Palace or Miller Sports Arena

San Francisco Giants - McCovey Park or South Beach Park

Pittsburgh Steelers - Rooney Field

Chicago Blackhawks/Bulls - Chicago Stadium II or Madison Street Arena

Fun idea!

Orlando Magic: New Orlando Arena or Church Street Center (both a homage to Church Street Station, the historic main street of the city, and it fits geographically).

Orlando City: (even though they don’t have a corporate sponsor, I’m doing this as a joke) We Didn’t Take Your Tax Money Stadium, short name WDTYTMS.

Orlando RIP-no-one-plays-heres: Citrus Bowl

Tampa Bay Rays: St. Petersburg Dome, Florida Suncoast Dome, or (joke) The Warehouse.

Cincinnati Reds: Crosley Riverfront Park

Cincinnati Bengals: Okay so Paul Brown Stadium isnt a corporate name but Id still change it to The Jungle, or The Factory of Sameness

FC Cincinnati: Currently they are using Nippert Stadium at the University of Cincinnati but their new stadium doesnt have a corporate sponsor yet. So if we did the opposite for the new stadium and gave it a corporate sponsor I would go with the Skyline Chili Bowl.

Cincinnati Cyclones: Riverfront Coliseum, or The Crown (Previous names for US Bank Arena)

Cincinnati Bearcats basketball: Shoemaker Center

Xavier Musketeers basketball: Xavier Convocation Center

NKU Norse basketball: Northern Kentucky Events Center

I'm sure you can think of more deserving people that that. Yount, Fred Miller, any member of the '57 Braves, etc. all deserve mentions. Heck, even Miller Valley Park sounds nice.

Of course, I have a few names for teams that I don't follow.

Astros: Union Station Grounds

Mariners: SoDo Field

White Sox: Sox Park (don't honor the asshat whose cheapness caused the Black Sox scandal)

Cleveland: Doby Field or Sockalexis Stadium (with the family's blessing)

Tigers: Tiger Stadium II or Kaline Park

Twins: Killebrew Field

Blue Jays: Skydome

Rays: Florida Suncoast Dome

Braves: Hank Aaron Park

Mets: Robinson Field or McGraw Field (after John McGraw)

Phillies: McGraw Park (after Tug McGraw) or Ashburn Park

It would almost certainly be called the Chicago Stadium if United decided they didn't want to sponsor it anymore.

I was surprised the Ilitches didn't go with "Detroit Olympia" for the new joint. They're not making any money on the naming rights anyway.

A few years ago, a local company called Nymeo bought the Frederick Keys (local high-a affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles). This was in a effort to keep the team from moving. They subsequently changed the name of the Keys stadium from Harry Grove Stadium to Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. I would revert it back to HGS or rename it to Francis Scott Key Field at Mt. Olivet Stadium. Francis Scott Key is burried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery right behind the Keys stadium.

I do appreciate what @SFGiants58 said about the Mariners and SoDo Field... I thought that should of been an option in the renaming process...

Seahawks/Sounders: Seahawks Stadium (Before the corporate names, that's what it was known as)

Seattle NHL Team/Sonics: Seattle Center or Seattle Arena

Washington Football: No name change needed

Washington Basketball: Hec Edmudson Pavillion
