The only other collapse this compares with is the President's Trophy winning Washington Capitals losing to the Habs in 2010. That went seven though, and the Canadiens probably wouldn't have pulled it out if it wasn't for Halák going beast mode.

Halak single-handedly carried an average Habs team to 7 games against the 2010 Caps for the win.

Here we have the President's Trophy winners going out in a sweep to a team that utterly dominated them in all aspects of the game.

The '96 Wings lost in the Conference Finals. The '07 Patriots and '16 Warriors made it to their respective finals before blowing it. Tampa though? First round sweep. An utter embarrassment. Cooper needs to go and they need to seriously consider moving the captaincy off of Stamkos.

Why though? I'd get it if you were a Lightning fan, but you're not last time I checked. So why do the Blue Jackets eliminating Tampa illicit this reaction from you?

Part of me just likes being a party pooper. I know, I know... not the best thing to do, especially after such a momentous occasion for Columbus fans. No longer are they the butt of all the jokes.

Hey Tampa,

Looks like you've got a buddy to keep you company in your Summer of Discontent.

Pittsburgh.

Made inglorious by this Winter of York, eh?

Now, Washington, don't you disappoint and finish off Carolina.

No Carolina needs to come back to win it, that way Don Cherry will be pissed at a bunch of jerks again.

This is how I felt after the reverse sweep. Sending away the rotten core would have been perfect.

It has to be to an in-state rival though. And the thought of the Lightning blowing a 3-0 series lead to the Florida G-ddamn Panthers makes me giddy.

Me too! It’d be nice to see the Panthers contend again, just for giggles.

I'm sitting here, patiently awaiting the soon-to-be released "Congrats Lightning! (2019)" and "Congrats, Pens! (2019)" from Tree.

You're right. Thanks for reminding me about U.T.

Can't wait for the vids haha!

That's the really crazy thing. The Lightning played most of the series like they all had concert tickets for the same night as Game 5.

Oh no. No. Lets not go there.

The 2005-'06 Red Wings finished with 124 points, 29 more than their first round opponent. The 2009-'10 Capitals finished with 121 points, 34 more than their first round opponent. Both of them lost to said opponents. Columbus is much better than New Jersey was last year; Lightning aren't going to have the first round "bye" that they had in the Devils. And that's not getting into that the Bruins, Penguins, or Capitals (especially the Caps) beating the Lightning wouldn't be too much of a surprise at all. They are all very good teams.

Expectations are high and they should be, but nobody's expecting a breeze here. Anyone who is, is in for a rude awakening.

Back when I used to make MLB pre-season predictions, I think there was only one time I correctly predicted both an LCS matchup, and who would win it.

2012, I predicted the Tigers to beat the Yankees. Not because it's what I wanted, but because I was trying to be, you know, "objective" and other assorted rubbish.

Turns out, while it's not quite the same thing, the post I'm quoting from nine days ago, it sure seems like I only end up being correct in situations where I really wish I could be anything but.

Again, why? Where's the fun in making people not like you? I don't get it.

Because so many people have made fun of the teams that I like for so long that sometimes, the only joy I get is through schadenfreude.

Look... I can try to explain my reasoning as much as I can, but the fact of the matter is that I acted like a jerk and tried to ruin your celebration here. I'm better then that and I should realize that. For that, I apologize to you, @Ice_Cap and @crashcarson15.

That has to be the most embarrassing loss I've ever seen a team take. Holy :censored:, Tampa Bay. Like, 28-3 Falcons choke isn't as bad as this.

Pittsburgh losing saves us from another mother:censored:ing Penguins-Capitals playoff series so everything is going wonderfully.

Fun Fact: Columbus (never, est. 2000) and the Isles ('93) are two of the three teams with the longest drought since a Conference Finals appearance. The other? Florida ('96).

Every other team has made it since the turn of the century (2002 on up).

Thunder Bay Lynx - International Hockey Association (2 seasons, 2017-18, 2019-20, 2018 Xtreme Cup Champions)Houston Armadillos - Major League Hockey (2 seasons, 2016-18) | Minnesota Muskies - North American Basketball Association (1 season, 2017-2018) | Louisville Thoroughbreds - United League of Baseball (1 season, 2017, 2017 United Cup Champions) | Las Vegas Thunderbirds - International Basketball League (1 season, 2016-17, 2017 Champions)

I’m not a Jackets fan, you don’t need to apologize to me :P

I’m just saying try to be less confrontational.

Well, I'm. Blue Jackets fan from the one part of Ohio that doesn't have their games on TV. Somehow we still get Pittsburgh sports where I live so my viewing of the Jackets is really intermittent. Especially since NBCSN and elsewhere never seem to have them on. I also suffer from the odd "blackout" when they are because it's assumed they're on in my area.

When I was little, long before the Jackets were even a thought, I was a Pens fan because they were the only team on TV. Back in the KBL/KDKA days before the litany of Fox Sports Pittsburgh, FSN Pittsburgh and whatever they're now today. But all those years it just seemed like the Jackets were setup to lose. Their first playoff appearance. A sweep. Years until the next.

This series is just not computing for me. They were down 3-0 in the first period of game 1 and my pessimism was at a high. I couldn't watch that game so was following only on Twitter and had stuff to do and honestly forgot about it. Assuming a bad loss was in the offing. Saw they won. Still don't know how. Down 3 after 20 minutes to the best team "ever" . Then watched them win again and again and again. That 3rd period was unreal. I've seen far too many first round exits. Brutal losses to the Pens. I just don't know how to act. Whatever happens, I just hope there isn't a hangover. But with several days off, I doubt there will be.

The other 15 teams must've been thinking they now have a chance. But they've got to contend with a team that could sweep the 'best'. Strange times we're living in.
