2019 NBA Playoffs Thread

I hear all this "competitive balance" talk, but when was the last time the NBA ever had "competitive balance" within a ten year span? It's almost always been super-team after super-team; that's just how the league goes.

I like what teams such as the Bucks have done. They aren't a super-team, but they're fun to watch. Unfortunately, they have a very low chance of winning if they play Golden State in the Finals.

It's not just the league, but the game itself. Sports like soccer and hockey are more likely to have seemingly random results because of the nature of those games' scoring. With basketball, the best team is more likely to win, and in the NBA it's a best-of-seven (unlike college) so you're less likely to get weird results.

Two things:

Watching the Warriors take down the Rockets AGAIN is, I swear to you, even more satisfying than seeing them win a championship.

The absolutely fire engulfed enraged hatred the Warriors get gives me life. “Bad look” on my part or not.

Oh, I get that.  If one of my teams ever became so dominate as to become universally hated, I'd love every second of it.

Hmmmmmm. 1999-2014. Lakers won 5 titles in that time frame. Whatever dude.

It has more to do with big men actually being important, guys like T-mac, Dwayne Wade, Shaq, Kobe, AI, and Vince Carter being able to single handedly win games and most importantly people played defense and didn't take 700 3s a game. Yeah the Lakers winning a lot is nice but thats not why I loved that era i mean hell my favorite year of all of them I watched was 2006 and the Lakers lost in the first round, i just think the modern nba is boring as hell to watch.

Now that I think about i think I  would have loved the NBA of the 70s and 80s more but i wasn't for that so i can really say but ether way I just want to leauge to be physical agian and for guys like Shaq, Kareem, Hakeem, Duncan, Wilt, Ewing and Robinson to dominate and not just a bunch of 6'4" and under guys and 7' skeletons jack up 3s its just boring as hell to watch.

Potential unpopular opinion: I like your NBA thread persona more than the (totally not a) Sharks fan persona.

I try to make sure I offer a little something for everyone. Gotta be well rounded 😂

I'm a simple man.  I see an Over the Top reference, I hit the like button.

Houston needs to burn it down.  If it didn't work with Durant out and Steph in a slump for most of the game, it's never going to.

Easier said than done when you're on the hook for one of the four worst contracts in the league, Chris Paul.

Contenders are Wiggins, Love, WallWestbrook

They just gave Capella, who was :censored:ing AWFUL this series, $90 million, too. I keep seeing the reactionary “blow it up” talk, but there’s really nothing they can even blow up. The Rockets are sort of just stuck with what they have right now. They pretty much took a huge gamble and went all in when they signed Chris Paul They’ve basically face planted and are going to have to pay the price now. It’s probably only going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

Might want to go back and look at some of those Finals in the 2000's as they were dreadful.  There were series in which the 100 point barrier was hit only once between the two teams.  Teams weren't even getting to 70.

Dreadful to you maybe but I much rather see a slower more defensive game that ends 93-89  or 85-75 than one that ends 138-133 like we've been seeing lately. higher scoring isn't better, in fact, I think it kills the excitement a lot of the time. But you can still get higher scoring finals with a more far more entertaining playstyle then we are getting now I mean you can just look at most of the finals from 1980 to 93, I'd kill to have that basketball over what we have now.

It's fascinating how people always try so hard to justify their hatred of a team beyond "they win and my team doesn't and that pisses me off." In my experience, the people who complain about the Warriors scoring too much are the same people that complained about the Spurs being boring. It's okay to just hate a team because they win more than your team. That's a basic sports thing.

I can't bring myself to hate the Warriors, honestly. It's not like they shelled out tens of millions to sign big-name reserve players. They built a strong roster through drafting and trading, then made a couple free agency splashes. Plus, they all seem like decent enough people and they hadn't won a title in 40 years before this run.

That being said, I'd much rather see any of the other teams left win the Finals.

It's a real bummer watching the Lakers turn into garbage.

Their new hot coaching candidate: Frank Vogel! Though given the Lakers' roster construction is stuck in 2012, maybe he'd be a good fit.

LeBron should demand a trade. Go to Houston, win a couple of titles, call it a career.

Vogel is on their radar because of the Lakers being so insular.

In 2016, after being fired by the Pacers, Vogel was runner-up for the Knicks job, losing out to Jeff Hornacek.

And the Knicks President at that time...Phil Jackson, who was still engaged to Jeanie Buss at the time.

EDIT: They hire Vogel today.

Damn, I want to be at the Jimmy Buss party tonight
