There is a part of me that would love Portland versus Toronto in the final ... not that I think it will actually happen, it's just the irony of "We the North" playing against a team that is actually more north than Toronto.

I saw, I came, I left.

If you watched the third, it didn't feel like the Blazers outscored the Warriors, but they actually did.

In the past, you used to need to withstand the third quarter of the Warriors. That hasn't been the deal as much this season. Golden State can still blow the doors open, but if I'm Portland, being down only 6 entering the fourth, considering the game Curry is having, is pretty great.

EDIT: LOL nevermind

Lillard's legs are gone. As great as his 3PT shooting was against OKC, he was just 27% against Denver and he got there after going 6-13 in Game 6.

Ok, so hot take here...

Maybe the Warriors don’t exactly need KD. Especially since LeBron is in basketball purgatory right now.

This is why it's so easy to hat the Warriors.

They have one of the most dominate players in the NBA, and they don't even really need him.

The Horny Cans have had a generational point guard and a generational big back to back, and proceeded to mostly do nothing with them. Now they get Zion Williamson. There must be some sort of voodoo magic going on there. The thing I’m worried about is that there’s already concerns about his frame holding up in the NBA and the New Orleans medical staff might try and convert him into a linebacker for the Saints.

Will be be interesting to see if they try to convince Davis to stay or if they try to cash in now. Seems to me that with the uncertainty going on in Boston, LA and New York they’re better off just waiting and hoping someone makes a panic move in February convinced that AD is all they need to get over the hump this year.

Frankly it wouldn't surprise me if Boston is that team.

Especially if they end up resigning Kyrie.

True stat: The Warriors have won 28 of their last 29 games when Steph plays and KD doesn't.

I will say this, though. The thing that absolutely KILLED them in 2016 is that Harrison Barnes pretty much folded like a lawn chair on the wing when it mattered most and when Steph and Klay were absolutely gassed. Legit NOBODY has the stamina LeBron has, and that’s the thing I think most people overlook/take for granted the most about him. He’s one of a kind in that sense. The Warriors needed at least some sort of an upgrade out there if they wanted to beat him at the end of the season with how long those runs are (2016 especially because basically nobody got a game off at the end of that year because of that run 73-9 run). They were also relatively small, so they needed height, too. I get why people knock KD for going there, because it was absolutely overkill (they maybe needed a slight upgrade at that spot, and ended up with the best wing player in the game), but they did have a legitimate weakness on that end and he was, like he would’ve been anywhere else, perfect for that role.

Just look at Dame right now. As Abel said, he’s absolutely gassed. And considering the slog Portland has gone through this post season, how would he not be? You’ve gotta realize this is the farthest the Blazers have ever played with this roster, and the fatigue is showing at the worst possible time.

People can knock KD and the Warriors all they want, and for the most part I get it. But if they learned one thing from that loss it’s how important having the stamina to maintain it late in the post season is. The biggest reason they’re gunning for a 5th straight Western title and 4 out of the last 5 is because KD has given them the opportunity to maintain some of that stamina. There is absolutely ZERO chance they would’ve had a long run like this without him. They recognized that, and so did he. I don’t think many people are really satisfied with a lot of it (KD included), but damned if it didn’t work.

Don't forget Lebron's "stamina" is one of the biggest reason the Cavs won Game 7 ECF last year against the Celtics.

I believe he played every minute of that game. They very likely don't win if he didn't.

My conspiracy theory is that the NBA rigged the lottery to help a struggling market. It shouldn't make a difference -- if NO didn't show up for AD why would they for Zion? -- but as a Seattlile looking lustfully at the Pelicans franchise, I'm now bummed.

I'm usually all for teams keeping their history. And that means the Thunder keeping the Sonics' history because, for better or worse, that's what the team is.

I won't say a word about that though if the Pelicans move to Seattle. The New Orleans Hornets should have gone to OKC anyway so the Pelicans going to Seattle and becoming the Sonics 2.0 would be a poetic bit of justice I suppose.

A part of me almost wants the Warriors core to stay together along with the Lakers & Knicks sucking again next season so the national media can have a collective meltdown.

Zion in the Big Easy! Can't wait! I'd imagine AD is probably going to be receiving a phone call from David Griffin real soon, trying to convince him to stay. New Orleans has a very bright future ahead. Depending on whether AD is traded or not, they're going to end up with one of the following combinations as their franchise stars next year:

Zion/AD

Zion/R.J. Barrett (via the Knicks)

Zion/Jayson Tatum (via the Celtics)

Zion/??? (maybe the 4th pick from the Lakers)

Throw in a healthy Jrue Holiday whose still in his prime + KD potentially going East, and suddenly the whole power dynamic in the West has shifted dramatically.

Edit: I forgot to add to add this:

This is probably the best off the court move the Pels have made since they've been in New Orleans. People are severely underestimating just how much of a positive impact Griffin is going to have on this organization.

No kidding. Second round? GTFO.

Lakers made a huge jump in a one-person draft, so does it matter? Maybe?

Just imagine the cries of “RIGGED!!1!” if the Lakers got it.

It is kind of annoying that this craziness (3 teams jump into the top 4 from 7, 8, and 11) happens when Orlando isn’t in it. I’m cool with that, though. Playoffs are more important than a *chance* at Zion.

As soon as they announced the Lakers had moved up I was thinking, "If they get Zion to line up with Lebron, does LA even go after Durant harder than they would otherwise"? Had New York gotten the top pick would Durant have been a Knick next year? I still think until Dolan leaves that team, New York will not get top talent.

Something kinda interesting I just realized. Last night Stephen and Seth Curry became the first two brothers to ever play against each other in the conference finals. We almost had the exact same thing happen in the eastern conference! Marc Gasol is on the Raptors, and Pau is on the Bucks (which I didn’t even realize), but Pau got hurt earlier in the playoffs. What a weird coincidence that would’ve been.

What if* Zion pulls an Elway/Danny Ferry/Eli and refuses to play for the Pelicans?

Spoiler

Stay bummed, you conspiracy-believing would-be schemer-stealer😜

Committed, deep-pockets ownership; new GOOD leadership at the executive operations level, and the number one pick in a consensus "great, can't miss player" year.   Yeah, we're set here for awhile.

...and BTW, New Orleans "showed up" for AD a lot more than soft-ass AD showed up for New Orleans.

NBA didn't "give" us anything.

That's pretty petulant and childish.

They did go to OKC... temporarily, after a major disaster.

... And then they came home.

... And then the powers-that-be and voters in Seattle wouldn't replace or do another major upgrade of an arena originally BUILT FOR THE 1962 WORLD'S FAIR.

... And Seattle's LOCAL, mega-bucks owner decided to SELL THE TEAM.

... And no local ownership group came forward to meet his price.

... And he talked to prospective buyers from Kansas City, St. Louis, Las Vegas, San Jose and Anaheim, but wound up selling the team to folks from OKC,  who had a taste of being "big-league" and were trying like hell to get back in the big leagues.

... And once they couldn't get an arena deal done, those folks moved the team to OKC.

Quit conflating the effects of a major disaster on one city with another city/metro area's failure to do what it takes to keep a team.

It is what it is.

All that may be true but New Orleans is still a bad market for the NBA and Howard Schultz did indeed nuke basketball in Seattle.

People also forget Seattle voters paid for 1996 renovations to KeyArena and asking for more public funds a decade later was a no go. I'm not saying KeyArena is an acceptable NBA arena because it clearly wasn't. It was really bad at the end (the end being 2018; it was still basically acceptable in 2008).

Anyway, it sucks when teams move. But no great fanbase got screwed as much as Seattle did by the NBA in the late 2000s and no other cities suffered as much for Seattle's sins (those sins being not publicly funding a playground for billionaires) than Milwaukee, Sacramento and others I'm likely forgetting.

An empty Seattle was very useful for a very long time for the NBA and its owners, but it's still a wrong that ought to be made right. Memphis and New Orleans seem to be the most likely candidates to move. It's not personal.
