NFL draft picks in new jerseys 2019

Recommended Posts

This obviously isn't his new jersey number, but just showing off the rarely-used "narrow" version of the NOB font.  I can only think of one other instance for sure (when "MIKE PATTERSON" had to go FNOB by rule).

Interesting to see how some teams already assign numbers to newly drafted players, but some have their players pose with jerseys that have their drafted round number.

They generally get the jerseys with a number 1 at the draft.  The jersey with the assigned number come with the first visit to team headquarters.

Eagles usually only assign a number to the 1st round pick - and even then, not all the time.  Probably only if whatever number he wants just happens to be available at the time.  The rest don't get numbers until mini camp, and they may change as guys start getting cut.

Here's their #1 from this year in what will presumably be his number.  I have no idea who he is or if this is his college number too.

Why? And I found this picture from an Ebay listing.

It used to be that if there was two players with the same last name, they had to have their first initials on the back.

If there was two players with the same last name and same first initial, they had to have their full name on back (not just first two initials.)

That rule, like several others pertaining to names, doesn't exist anymore.

I've seen the first two initials before, but never the full name. Which is why I asked.

Maybe this is more for another thread about initialed NOB's or something.

The latter rule was never applicable, as Mike and Dimitri obviously start with different letters.

IIRC (and I might not... it was a while ago) the problem was with a preseason player, and the MIKE was removed either before the season or shortly after.  He might not have actually even worn that in a regular-season game.

Here's a few other modern-era examples.  I'm pretty sure it was mostly a preseason issue.

You'd think the jersey numbers would have been enough to differentiate players with the same last names 😕

I've always thought the stacked approach worked much better

For what ever reason it’s not allowing me to quote, but stacked is by far the worst. The first name gets covered by the helmet and the number get pushed further down than normal.
