2019 NBA Summer season

I don’t really watch the NBA, but I’ll still throw my two cents in. I’ll watch the playoffs if they’re on and I followed free agency and all that, so I guess that makes me about as qualified to talk NBA as some of the “analysts” on ESPN and FS1.

West:

1. Nuggets

2. Clippers

3. Lakers

4. Warriors

5. Blazers

6. Jazz

7. Rockets

8. Spurs

East

1. Bucks

2. Sixers

3. Celtics

4. Nets

5. Pacers

6. Raptors

7. Pistons

8. Heat

I think people are much higher on the Celtics than I am. It's one thing to lose two All-Stars already, but to lose them to two division rivals who you play 4 times a year compounds the impact. And I have no idea where the defense is going to come from on the current squad. A playoff team regardless, but a top-4 seed will be tough.

Adding Kemba over Kyrie is addition by subtraction.

Defense does make me feel a bit uneasy, Horford was the anchor of that defense and it will be interesting to see how they replace him.

But as long as that defense isn't complete trash, I see no reason why they can't finish in the top 4-5.

I think people are overestimating how good the Nets will be. KD isn't going to playing this season.

Exactly. I just put the Celtics up that high (4) because I think they're the best of the teams outside of Milwaukee, Philly and probably Indiana. Their front court is very thin, but I think their defense and superior coaching makes up for any shortcomings.

As far as the Nets, they surprised a lot last season, and will have LeVert back. Kyrie running the point doesn't hurt either. They're definitely in that second tier with Indiana, Boston, Toronto and probably Miami.

I'm watching the TV replay of today's Kawhi/PG presser, and Ballmer is speaking as I'm currently writing.  His enthusiasm reminds me of that rally he hosted at Staples the Monday after the sale to him became official.  It doesn't feel it's been five years since Ballmer bought the team, but man...outside of the name and a few familiar faces, this is virtually a completely-different franchise than the previous 34 years.

The L.A. Clippers today unveiled renderings and additional details of the team’s privately-financed sports and entertainment center anchored by their new basketball arena in Inglewood.

In addition to the arena, the proposed project located on West Century Boulevard between South Prairie Avenue and South Yukon Avenue will include the team’s business and basketball offices, training facility, community and retail spaces.

The proposed arena will have a three-dimensional oval design with a unique exterior of diamond-shaped metal panels inspired by the concept of a basketball swishing through a net. In addition to attractive aesthetics, the panels have been designed to provide solar benefit for maximum energy efficiency, as part of the facility’s LEED GOLD-certified design.

The facility’s most striking feature, intended to highlight the temperate climate of Southern California, is the integration of indoor/outdoor “sky gardens.” These landscaped areas for food and beverage will be accessible from every concourse level. The complex also envisions a multi-purpose plaza complete with concert stage, community basketball courts and space for the community to gather and watch everything from Clippers Playoff games to movie premieres on a supersized LED screen.

Is it actually moving forward? Dolan's pretty pissed about it being pretty closed to the Forum, but no one cares about Inglewood. Have all of those people who currently live where the stadium is planned been bought out/moved?

IIRC, the latest edition of "The Hoop Collective" discussed the Dolan/Balmer issue.  The story, which Windhorst/Jackie/McMahon retold, was also covered last week by The Shadowleague*.  Dolan felt he was duped by the Inglewood mayor and financially backed an opponent but the mayor was reelected last year.

Are you talking about our new subterranean Key Arena that will prioritize hockey instead of the sport people really want?

Yeah, I don't get it either.

Thanks for the link, but boy was that article trash. They're trying to do Deadspin without the talent. Dolan's an ass, no doubt, but I'm sure there are other legit reasons to be concerned about building a new arena in a residential neighborhood that would have been interesting to read.

Well, here's a LA real estate blog story from 2018 about the beef.

Dolan alleges that the city asked him to give up its long-term lease and a purchase option on a 15-acre parking facility about a mile from the Forum, according to the suit. That was done, Dolan alleges, under the pretense that Inglewood planned to develop a technology park there. That could have been a boon for the Forum, the former home of the Los Angeles Lakers and the National Hockey League’s Los Angeles Kings, which four years ago the Madison Square Garden Company spent $100 million turning into a live music venue.

Instead, the suit alleges that “to the Forum’s shock, the ‘technology park’ turned out to be the proposed Clippers arena,” according to the suit. The new arena, which presumably would also host other events, would be a major competitor to the Forum.

I've never went to a Lakers/Kings game at The Forum, just two concerts and it both were cool for the time, but a concert at New Forum is outstanding.
