New Logos, Uniforms for Golden State Warriors in 2020

Golden State and the NBA have filed for new logo designs at various trademark offices, ahead of the move to the new arena. The bridge logo has been tweaked, with fewer cables on the bridge and new horizontal lines running up the tower. The font only has serifs on the left side of letters. The "Bay" logo will likely replace the current "Town" logo, and the "W" in the secondary logo appears to be two-toned. Like most trademark filings, these images were submitted in black and white. They will obviously be in colour when in actual use.

I don't love that new typeface, but can't deny that it does have a very classic Californian vibe to it that I can imagine would be further enhanced depending on the color treatment. Any steps they take toward a local identity and away from desktop-publishing software count as an upgrade.

Looks like the outline is equally weighted now as well. Big improvement, but I'd rather see them move back to the Golden Gate with the move. The off-center bridge bugs me. Just lose the logo on the jersey and go with the "The City" throwbacks as the city edition.

The O in Warriors bother me...the O just looks like it's higher than the I and the R in the arch.

Other than that, it's a good improvement on the Copperplate and the uneven circle.

New Logos, Uniforms for Golden State Warriors in 2020

June 10, 2019 - 20:08 PM

The Golden State Warriors, NBA Finals participant, are making a change to their logo set for next season. Nothing has been officially announced by the club or the league, but four new logos were trademarked with EUIPO — the European […]

Wow, this is surprising. That being said, my initial thought is upgrades all around. To me, the Warriors had one of the strongest visual brand in pro sports right now, and changing that font and the awkward circle spacing puts it over the top.

And that Bay logo is beautiful

The Bay logo looks like the new logo for . . .

. . . which really isn't a good thing.

It looks like they actually changed it from what was supposed to be the east span of the Bay Bridge to the Golden Gate Bridge. I get that, but I kinda wish they had kept the Bay Bridge.

Overall? It’s an upgrade. I’m interested to see the new uniforms.

Yeah they need to ditch “the bay” logo. I honestly can’t even make out what the hell its supposed to be.

Looks like sunrise over the bay perhaps? But agreed, that logo is terribad.

Otherwise, I really like the alterations to the bridge logo and their typeface. Not big on the big W logo but it's not the worst thing either.

Not sure what happened to this when I originally posted it, but that’s supposed to be the entrance to the bay from the Marin Headlands. Not sure how iconic that viewpoint is outside of the Bay Area, but it’s relatively well known by locals. I knew exactly what they were trying to convey the second I saw that logo.

Look at the tower, though. Neither span of the Bay Bridge really looks like that.

Maybe it’s meant to be some weird hybrid? Either way, that’s kind of bugging me.

EDIT: Ok, I guess I can see it now. That makes it even stranger though. Why use the east span still when that’s the Oakland to Treasure Island span? Especially when the new arena is basically within view of the more famous west span. That was one of my favorite things about the old logo. It actually used the portion of the bridge that touched Oakland. I was hoping they would’ve updated it to use the portion of the bridge that actually touches San Francisco. That feels like a missed opportunity,
