Teams that don’t wear a color that’s on their logo?

The Yankees have in the past experimented with red as an accent color on some uniform elements:

I actually miss that last one; Gray is a weak substitute, and even less a team color than red is.

The odd color out for the Yankees is royal blue.

And before that, light blue.

They've never incorporated either shade into uniforms.

Old stadium at least had the royal blue. That’s gotta count for something.

Can that uniform get anything else on it? manufacturer: “we can do numbers, tv numbers, sleeve stripes, sleeve logo, contrasting colors on collar, 2 patches, piping, nameplates, and a name above the front numbers. What do you want?” team: yes

Yup - nothing for the team to be proud of there.  That was not one of the better uniforms the Tiger-Cats ever wore.  Present ones definitely an upgrade to that mess.

Wow, I didn't know that. Users can flag these errors, right?

I don’t know.  Been trying to engage Chris on Twitter, but no luck.

@Chris Creamer, I would love to help update these pages (I bet I can find a dozen errors on the Brewers and Packers pages, and that’s just because they’re the teams I know best).

No offense intended - I know most of the problems come from the leagues and teams themselves.  They’ve been poor stewards of their own history, but we can help do better.

The other prominent one besides Australia, Netherlands, Italy, and New Zealand is Japan:

(You'll find this quite a bit with several of the Middle Eastern countries, though, since most of their national flags all use the same colors.)

Until recently, the Venezuelan national teams exclusively used maroon and gold (and their soccer team wore volt once)

Does this count?

Probably not. Most Oregon uniform sets (across all sports) include that dark green.

The blue/gold Sabres logo has had a red eye more often than not. The only time they’ve worn red was under a different logo set.

The Mavericks have bizarrely used black on logos but navy on the uniforms for the last 20 years.

I cannot believe that the first example was not the Yankees and the red found in the bat-and-hat logo.

When I was a kid, I had a white shirt that had the Yankee bat-and-hat logo on the front and red raglan sleeves.  I remember the day that I got the shirt, which would have been in 1973 or 1974. The store had Yankee shirts with the numbers 15 and 1 (I got one with number 15), and Met shirts with the numbers 3 and 41 (my brother got one with number 3). The Yankee shirts had red sleeves and the Met shirts had blue sleeves. I don't think I have seen a red-based Yankee item since then.  (I am not referring to fashion hats, which come in all colours, but to items that use red as a team colour.)

Could you imagine the Yankees having red numbers in front of the jerseys like the Dodgers?

Actually, if they were to do anything (which I hope not), I wouldn't mind red names on the back.

The Steelers were always a prime example of this for me. The red and blue diamonds are prominent in their logo, but it is not in their color system. Just the yellow. What gives?

Its because the logo is a modification of the steelmark logo.  The three hypocycloids on the logo represent the three materials used to produce steel, with yellow for coal, orange for iron ore and blue for scrap steel.

The Steelers' logo is a takeoff of what was at the time the logo of the U.S. Steel Corporation. The franchise asked for and was granted permission to use it.

Why have the Steelers changed the orange to red?

Not their current logo, but the Spurs' old "fiesta" logo is such an iconic example of this that I'm surprised it hasn't yet been mentioned.

They didn’t - they dropped the yellow, moved gold up in its place, and added red.

I seem to recall reading that the yellow wasn’t visible at distance, they wanted more contrast with the white background.
