emberstudio
I've wanted to do an update to the NJ Devils logo, I think the general symbol is solid but it could use a modernization from the current 1980s design. Really it wouldn't take much to give the existing design some new life. I'm also throwing in a jersey concept, another update to the current design that just adds some modern touches. Removed the thick sleeve triple-stripes and went with angled thin stripes and black cuffs.
officeglenn
Very nice! I prefer the flat version of the logo over the one with the beveling, though. The balance of the jersey is a bit off for me. It feels like there's not enough white on it. But I would assume the numbers would be white, as they are now, so having those on there would probably do the trick. EDIT: Also, the logo feels a little crowded at the top, where the horns on the J meet the bend in the N. It feels a bit off because the white space there doesnt match the white space at the bottom of the N. I'm not really sure what the solution would be, though. Yeah, I've been struggling with that part of it. I had wanted to avoid adding more vertical size to the logo, so I kept the horns low. But it might be an ok trade-off to push them up higher and open up that negative space more.
nuordr
I love the beveled logo, but not a fan of the jersey as I loved the triple stripes.
C-Squared
I'm sure "purists" wouldn't like the two-tone red, but I like the life it breathes into this logo! I know it contradicts the original, but I wouldn't mind seeing the white space both inside and above the N totally blacked out. I agree that there could be a bit more white in the jersey itself, but I have always thought the team was missing out on a gimmie of an alternate uni that feels a bit more "devil-ish" and pointed. Think it adds some interesting texture to the design. And since I've been looking at this as an update and not a redesign, trying to keep some heritage in mind, the opportunity to add some visible retro devils green is fun. WSU151
The non-beveled logo looks far better IMO, and an idea just popped into my head for the shoulders...green state of NJ, outlined in red and white (on the black background)...or a green state in a red roundel...or reversed colors...just spit ballin' lol I do like how you made the tail of the main logo have the same curves as the circular outline. Looks cleaner than the current tail. Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.
builtbymachines
Overall I love the idea. However I'd like to be a little picky here: - The top left point really bothers me, I don't think it's necessary at all IMO. - The dark red point on the downward slope of the "N" I feel should be either shorter, or connect with the black line. - The dark red flowing from the length of the tail, to the tip seems to be a tad bit off, right where it meets the black line of the circle. I say either remove the dark red from the tip, or make the dark red thicker where it just starts that final curve into the tip...
jaha32
I like what you’ve done with the pointy end of the tail almost nearly perfectly curving along the outer circle. I don’t mind the beveling as it does add a lot of life into the design. Right now your darker shade of red is bottom-right, except on the top right horn. I’d add a shadow to that horn for consistency. DesignsByHahn.com Behance Dribbble Instragram
HRC4
I, personally, love the beveling. It adds some "flair" to an otherwise basic logo.
appleclock
I think the composition is about as good as you can get it. There are some quirks with the white spaces but the more I look at it I think this is really pretty strong. Especially when you put it side by side with the current logo. I agree about the suggestions about the beveling. It helps bring out the J which I always felt was way too obscured by the N in the logo.
jaha32
I’m going to chime in one more time about the beveling since I really like what you’re doing with this. I agree that the beveling helps bring out the J somewhat, but you could bring it out even more if you extended the darker shade of red on the diagonal bar of the N all the way so that it’s flush with the the J. Right now it ends halfway. Beveling looks good on the Dallas Stars IMO so why not the Devils too. Chromatic
I like both, but put me in the non-beveled camp.

The beveling I feel like would be a little dated in a few years. The flat image has the timeless qualities that the original logo has... flyersfan
Big fan. I really like it, but the jersey feels very predators copy. The bevel i actually kinda like, and I think hockey is the only sport it works in since the logo is so huge on the jersey. Also green would be a neat addition (but im sure youve thought of this). Really great here, i think the jersey needs one more thing though... maybe double stripe the white on that thickness? I think it could use a tough of playing around, but the bevel is sweet! emberstudio
Thanks for all of the feedback, everyone. I'm definitely applying some of the suggestions. Still working on it but here's the latest: The beveling is the biggest struggle right now. I took the suggestion from @jaha32 to apply the bevel with more accurate light/shadow representation and add the shadow to the right horn, but it just looked weird. Despite being more accurate with how light would look in the beveled shape, I just wasn't happy with the look. I did push the horns up slightly, to create separation between the horns and the top of the "N". Think this does help with the previous crowding in that area that @officeglenn mentioned. Happy Draft Day everyone!
Le Québécois
Classy and beautiful. The kind of thing this conservative team (design wise) might go to... Le QUÉBÉCOIS
Ridleylash
I wonder how adding a white stripe along the hem and having a white collar over a red one could look? It'd help balance the colors out a little, as right now the core of the jersey is basically all red and black with not much white aside from the thin arm striping and the lettering, despite how prominent a color it is in the primary logo. And I'm still not a very big fan of bevel, so I'd love to see a version of the jersey with the flat logo instead to compare and contrast both styles of logo.
