Hurry up and figure it out so that I know if I need to add the Republic to the concept series I've been working on. ;)

Sash for the home, gray hoops for the road, New Glory Brewing for the sponsor.

Boom. 😂

There's something to be said for making your pitch (lol) feel inevitable, but there's also something about putting a car before a horse.

MLS expansion is fine, but I really wish some markets like Philly, Boston, Denver and even the Red Bulls could have a do-over on their stadiums. Not the stadiums per se, but the locations.

Talen Energy Stadium is beautiful, having the Commodore Barry Bridge in the background. But it is in Chester which is 20-30 minutes from Philadelphia. Also, the area in which the stadium is located is not a good area, to say the least. I really wish that the stadium could have been built by CBP, the Wells Fargo Center, and the Linc. You wouldn't have as good of a background but it beats the hell out of it being in Chester.

Philly's concentration of its sports venues on a campus, particularly, makes the Union's situation look that much worse. Shame they couldn't sacrifice one of the parking lots at the end of the alphabet to build there. The Linc has proven to be a very solid soccer venue, though.

EDIT: Didn't realize this was already being discussed in the general North American soccer thread

David Tepper met with the Charlotte city council yesterday, and it's unclear whether he asked for a standalone SSS or for upgrades to BofA Stadium to allow it to host an MLS franchise.

Quote

On Tuesday afternoon, WBTV spoke with a third source with knowledge of Tepper’s request, who, like the first two people briefed on the proposal, asked to not be named in order to discuss sensitive and ongoing discussions between the city and Tepper.

All three sources confirm to WBTV that Monday night’s closed session meeting centered solely on a plan to bring MLS to Charlotte.

A key point of the plan, all three sources confirmed, was funding for a facility where an MLS team would play.

During the meeting, those presenting the pitch outlined a request for between roughly $100 million and $200 million in city funds for the facility, which would host a future soccer team and not also share a space with the Carolina Panthers.

Unlike the first two sources that WBTV spoke with, the third source clarified the city funds would be used to upfit Bank of America Stadium, where the Panthers currently play, to convert it to a soccer stadium.

According to the third source, improvements to the facility would include adding tunnels at the center of the stadium and converting the football locker rooms into soccer locker rooms, among other things.

I really hope this leads to BoA getting upgrades and not a new SSS, since I want the city to save money for 2030 or whenever BB&T Ballpark is old enough to justify building an MLB-sized park.
