2019 NFL Season: Super Bowl LIV

Eagles resigned Darren Sprowles, which really pisses me off. Still a good player but can’t be relied on and will take a roster spot from someone that could develop. 

 

Someone today said he might be a HOFer - that can’t be right... right?

He's 6th all-time in all-purpose yards.  And 4 out of the 5 ahead of him are in the Hall of Fame. His longevity is a lot of it but he's also the recordholder for most single season all-purpose yards too. Guy has had a hell of a run. Not bad for a 5'6" guy from K-State.

I'm honestly shocked that this hasn't happened already. The modern NFL is a TV product, first and foremost. They don't need more games; they need more episodes of TV's highest-rated shows.

I looked this up, and that 1 out of 5 is Brian Mitchell.  Considering the 'standards' for NFL HOF, how is he not in there?  Dude could do everything, and was one of the first truly feared return specialists that I can remember.  IIRC he even played QB for WAS in the 'body bag' game.  I know he was loved when he played here, because all he did was get yards.

He's somewhat of a complier, like how Frank Gore's career is going to be seen. While he was on a Super Bowl winner, look at the Top 5 again he doesn't stand out as a game changer. Ask yourself if the history of the NFL was a book, would it be incomplete without Mitchell? I'd say no. I'd say Devin Hester was a better player.

 

There's also a bit of a logjam of more impactful players retired just as long who aren't in.

This should be the standard - for all leagues - but it's not, so it's irrelevant.  I'd argue that he was way more valuable than Hester, who (correct me if I'm wrong) was really just a returner, while Mitchell did a little of everything.

 

He was absolutely a game changer, though not in a flashy way like a Hester or lots of other guys.  He was a player that teams had to account for and gameplan against... at least on special teams.

 

Not saying he's on a Mt. Rushmore or anything, but IMO it wouldn't be a head-scratcher if he did make it to the HOF.  It may not be a no-brainer, but if he got in, I don't think anyone could argue much against it.

I consider Hester more all around, Mitchell outside of return yards had only 4000 yards receiving and rushing combined over a 15 year career. Which is less than 300 yards a season. Devin Hester was able to be a No. 2 receiver for a portion of his career and just caught for 3300 yards over 11 years while not being a receiver for 2 years.

Now that Training Camps are starting, I thought I'd give so early hot takes for the season

 

- Browns will win the AFC North (They will also make the AFC Championship)

- Patriots will finish at least 10-6 BUT will have to play in the Wildcard (likely Jacksonville)

- NFC Championship will be Cowboys vs. Bears

- Drew Lock will Replace Joe Flacco by week 7

In other NFL news, Kevin Byard just got paid handsomely.

 

I'm glad for him and for the Snatit...dude's playing at an all-star pace, and it's still early, but if he keeps up the pace, we could be seeing a potential Hall-of-Famer in the making.

Yup..."The Mayor of Murfreesboro"-- that's what they call him around town. And to think, dude didn't even get a combine invite. Now here he is, willingly taking on more of a leadership role--and getting PAID to do so. I really like the guy... easily one of my favorites to watch.

I actually work for MTSU and a handful of teams came to our Pro Day. I remember hearing the Browns were so impressed with Byard they flew him to their facilities that night and had a private workout with him the next day. As a Browns fan and MTSU employee I was beyond pumped at the idea of him becoming a Browns player. 

 

Obviously the Titans got him the pick right before us. But I think it has worked out well for him, he comes back to Murfreesboro a lot and supports pretty much all athletics here. It isn't uncommon to see him at a women's soccer game or a baseball game a few times a year just sitting in the bleachers.

That's what's up right there. That's also how you build a fanbase. Tennessee certainly lucked out with him, Byard being a "homegrown" and all. 

 

Between him and Derrick Henry, the Snatit should have most of Tennessee and half of Alabama on lock by now. (Except they don't...)

Correct.  Hester was a superior player and was a star. Mitchell was never a Star

He and Mitchell both have 255 receptions, but Hester has more TDs and a bigger yards per catch.  Hester has a better average KR yards and PR yards per attempt too.  Hester has more return TDs.
