He has $97,000,000 (well, about half that) from the Colts. Who can blame him?

Leaving over 58 million of that on the table.  Not to mention the huge next contract he just turned down.

Wonder at what point the NFL takes notice and makes real changes to the game.

I really like Jacoby Brissett. I think the Colts will be OK with him at QB. They won't be as good without Andrew Luck as they would have been with him, but I think they have a pretty capable QB in Brissett who is ready to take the reins. (No Colts pun intended)

Not to toot my own horn, but in Madden franchise mode, I was the Jaguars, traded Bortles away, traded for Brissett, who in return helped take the Jaguars to 4 straight superbowls, and 6 in 7 years. Winning 5 of them. If my own genius plays out the same for the Colts, they’ll be fine.

Adam Schefter said (via twitter) that the Colts could've recouped $24.8m from Luck, but already reached a financial settlement with Luck where they won't take back any money.

Does that count against the cap?  Because if so, the Tank is on in Indy.

Not sure. The article only mentions that they "allowed him to keep it after all the poundings he's taken and all he's given to the franchise".

It was $12.8m as a prorated portion of the signing bonus from his 2016 extension, and another $12m in roster bonuses he was paid in March. Does any of that count against the cap?

Not saying it's impossible, but I hope you don't mind that I seriously doubt it's going to play out like anything close to that for the Colts. B)

$16.4M dead money this season and $6.4M next year according to Spotrac.

Had they chose to collect, they could've gotten back the $12.8M.

Luck has 171 regular season TD passes and sacked 174 times. He was sacked 41 times in a season twice (2012 and 2016). 2012 was Bruce Arians as interm HC. Carson Palmer and Ben Roethlisberger also had 40+ sack years under Arians.

Jameis is in for a rough season cause Bruce will get ya sacked.

Maybe it will knock some sense into Jameis and he'll actually play decent, doubt it though.

I almost think that’s the point this season. This is a contract year for Jameis, so they might as well try to beat him to all hell. If he struggles, which he absolutely will, then cool cut him loose! They get to save face and money and can focus on what’s really important, like defrauding the state of Florida for hurricane protection funds.

As you can imagine, I'm in shock of the news. Still haven't really fully processed it.

But I support Andrew entirely and I'm glad he's making the right decision for himself and his family. I myself am a father of a nine-month-old, and with him having a kid on the way I can understand why he would want to prioritize his health and mental health. Now the Colts will ride with Jacoby. I still think they're a playoff team, even if I don't see them standing a chance against the likes of New England and Kansas City.

And that being said, I just bought my tickets to go watch the Colts play in KC. I take every chance I can get the watch the Colts when they travel to Missouri. The silver lining here for me is that some good tickets were just put on ticketmaster for much, much cheaper than they had been going for before this news. I'm just telling myself that it's the result of Andrew leaving and the game not seeming as important to KC fans.

Has Luck done enough for the Colts for them to retire his number or will it be a case where it’ll be a few years before we see 12 grace the jersey of another Indy player?

I think it’s fair to say that he’s currently the 3rd greatest quarterback in franchise history, behind Unitas and Manning.

Torrey Smith's response was even better.

Gottlieb has always been a certified, grade A clown.

So it's the "Lol, Millenials are dumb amirite?" schtick again? And coming from a guy whose generation (born in 1976) could best be described as the Beavis and Butthead generation to boot. More things change, man.

EDIT: Plus, the only person who actually knows the reason Andrew Luck retired is Andrew Luck. Could be he's burned out and wants to preserve as much of his mind and body as he can. Could be because he's frustrated with the front office? Hell, could be anything. Saying that its because he's a "Millennial" is like saying that someone is bigoted because they're old/isolated.
