2019 NFL Season: Super Bowl LIV

95 NFC Championship Game. Fail Mary. Clay Matthews so much as breathing on a QB. I'm not sure where people get the idea that the Packers always get favorable calls when they've had some very well-known instances of getting :censored:.

This might come back to bite me, but I can’t wait for the Niners to send you guys back home in humiliating fashion. Like they did in week 11.

In the past 10 years, their offense was awarded the most 1st downs by penalty, while opposing teams were awarded the least 1st downs by penalty.  Both by a large margin.

Yeah, it's really hard to picture them beating the Chiefs with less than 100 yard passing, however good their running game is. As a Viking fan I've had to listen to a lot of "experts" saying Kirk Cousins won't win the big one, so I'm just going to say...

Ryan Tannehill? Super bowl champion? Sure.

I've seen Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer do it. Also, Eli over Brady TWICE. Peyton's corpse winning it all.

Anytime I see a team make a massive comeback, I just say that the team that came back was definitively the best team. There's no fluke about it or anything, they were the undisputed best team who happened to give the other team a head start.  I felt this way when the Pats had their (in)famous comeback against the Falcons.

I've never seen a blowout turn into a blowout for the other team. I've seen plenty of wacky comebacks in college football, but I've never seen a game swing this wildly. Sure, I saw UCLA comeback from 32 against Washington State this season, and that was among the dumbest games I ever saw, but it would have been way dumber if UCLA's comeback led to them being up by an insurmountable amount with a quarter to go.

Packers are right up there with The Patriots for getting favorable calls. I don't know how anyone can deny that. Just look at that game against Detriot they had this season. That Game honestly still kind of pisses me off.

As far possible Super Bowl match-ups;

I think It's clear that the NFL would love nothing more than a Chiefs - Packers Super Bowl. Since between being a Rematch of the 1st & 2nd Super Bowl, and being exactly 50 years since The Chiefs last Super Bowl win, there's so much they can milk out of it.

Personally, I'd like to see The Titans make it since who the hell had them winning it all? LOL

Well...granted it was a late take, but still...

I'm pretty sure I mentioned it last week, but if Tennessee holds and wins this game, they're going all the way. Straight up.

SB II was actually Green Bay Packers vs. Oakland Raiders, but I too had similar thoughts on the other historical facts a few hours earlier, myself.

Yeah, but I'm talking the beginning of the season.

LOL I want to meet 1 person who said in September the the Titans were legit Super Bowl contenders and had a decent shot at winning the whole thing.

All in all, I really cannot complain about the season. This was an 8-8 or 9-7 team who benefitted from its QB playing put of his mind. Russell Wilson had an MVP year by the true definition. I also have no problem with rooting for GB to beat SF.

Some leads are just too big to overcome. They've done 14 point leads during the season... an 18 point lead at Lambeau in January was just a little too much for them.

It was a great season. There's no sense of disappointment in me.

That reminds me...I'm still pissed at the Vikings for not drafting him.

I’m in the anyone but the NFC this year. Being a diehard Lions fan makes it difficult for me to root for the Packers. Plus the fact I am also a Cardinals fan(I live in the Phoenix area), so I don’t want to see the 49ers.

Relax. It was just "trash talk." I wasn't serious. Did you miss the "wink" at the end of the post? Anyway, I removed the post because it does read rougher than I intended.

Because there's no possible way this could just be evidence of Aaron Rodgers ability to use the hard count or improvise big passes on free plays.... Both things he is universally regarded as being very good at.

Also... Clay Matthews. If he didn't rack up the most penalties for late hits or unnecessary roughness during this time, he certainly had his share of high profile instances of a call against him impacting the game against the Packers. That certainly wouldn't be the case if there were some underlying conspiracy to make the Packers win more games.

The Packers got the a-- end of some terrible calls against Seattle too. Such as the refs missing a Seahawks fumble in the first quarter and charging the Packers a time out because they couldn't find evidence of who recovered it. Great teams find ways to overcome these things. That's why the Packers are playing for a NFC Championship next week and the Vikings are the Vikings.

For anybody having trouble figuring out this graph, it's tracking the number of times a team's offense benefitted from a penalty to gain a 1st down, vs the number of times a team's defense  was called for penalty that gave their opponent a first down.  The higher you are in the upper left quadraint, the better the calls have been for you. As you can see, Green Bay is floating out there on a happy island. What it translates to is the idea that if you got a sport/media/marketing star like, let's say, Aaron Rodgers, holding calls against the offensive line on 3rd and long are going to be extremely rare. (I've watched a lot of Packer games, and I honestly can't remember the last time someone on GB got a holding call. I'm sure they have, I just can't think of it. The Vikings D line, who are known as rather prolific sackers, just openly talk about how getting held at Lambeau is just something they have to deal with.) The converse of that is how often a team with a superstar QB will bennifit from defensive holding or PI. I'm not saying the refs are doing it consciously, or have been told to do it, but there's no doubt some unconscious bias seeps on from being around one of those "it" players. It's the Michael Jordan syndrome.

If you're a fan of one of these "protected" teams, I don't think you should feel bad about it (hell, I'm a Buckeye fan... And we are definitely one of those teams), just don't deny it, or act like it doesn't happen.  It makes you look bad.

Or, if you like, just say, blah blah, he's just a Viking fan, fake news... That will probably work too.

I’m good with any potential Super Bowl matchup this year. My most desired is Niners Chiefs because the Niners are the local team and I absolutely LOVE Pat Mahomes (Plus, it means I can wear my Joe Montana Chiefs jersey during the game), but even my least desired matchup, Packers Titans, would be cool too because that’s just weird as all hell. I like those random Super Bowl matchups.

After the Packers won last night, my first thought was that I could see the Chiefs and Packers getting all the calls next week because a rematch of Super Bowl I would be too perfect in the NFL's 100th season. That said, I do wonder why a league that all but ignores its history prior to January of 1967 would bother with celebrating that ignored history. Anyway, I don't like seeing the Buckeyes or Packers get all the calls, but it's not like I'm looking to give back those calls either. It's not fair, but it is what it is. No point in denying it.
