Vintage burfict has been suspended for the rest of the season.

That guy belongs in a nuthouse or a time machine back to 1979 where he'd be considered a somewhat dirty player rather than a criminally insane sociopath. And THIS is the guy who supposedly kept Antonio the Clown from committing a hate crime against Mike Mayock.

Raider lays a helmet-to-helmet hit: suspended for the year

Patriot lays a helmet-to-helmet hit: quarterback needs to learn how to run, you know actually the real victim here is the Patriots

I figure if it was anyone but Burfict, they would've stopped at an ejection, because that wasn't tackling, that was headhunting.  That said...he has earned his rep as the NFL's dirtiest active player, and is probably the most idiotically reckless player I know of, if the long list of people calling for him to be banned from the league for life are any indication.

So yeah, this is of Burfict's own making.  That he's currently a Raider has jack all to do with it.  This suspension is long overdue.

Okay. There's still too wide a chasm between a twelve-game suspension and "perhaps Josh Allen's concussion is his own fault." Move one or both points in.

It was an illegal hit, but it was caused by Allen refusing to go down and give himself up. Jones was just trying to stop the first down and did try to avoid helmet to helmet but it wasn’t possible. Vontase burfict has a long history of doing these dirty hits. He’s been suspended for 22 games and fined over 400 thousand over the last 4 years for these same hits and has never learned.

It's OK, the Raiders still will have the dirtiest player in the league playing on Sundays.

This is an absurd take.  A quarterback may choose to go down for his own benefit.  But he doesn't have the obligation to go down in order to make the defence's job easier.

And it’s the defenses job to prevent a 1st down.  It’s also the qb’s job to preserve himself to be available for his team.

Yes, by means of any tackle that is within the rules.  Which this was not.

Irrelevant.  That's between the player and his coach.  It has nothing to do with the opposition.

So because Allen runs into him, lowers his head into jones helmet, and jones turns to try to avoid it and does not launch that makes it jones fault?

Any helmet-to-helmet contact is illegal.

Illegal yes, but to say it was the defenders fault and intention in every case is wrong.

In this case it was.

Also, personal fouls shouldn't offset holding. That was also some :censored:.

No it wasn’t, basically everyone is calling it a football play and what happens when a an chooses not to slide. They all agree that when a an becomes a runner he is fair game to be hit. Also only hitting a defenseless player in the helmet is unnecessary roughness, technically Allen wasn’t defenseless on this play and the penalty was called because he was a qb.

Did they change the rule?  Last year it was lowering the helmet to make contact was a penalty, and the Patriots player did not do that on the Josh Allen hit.  Allen was actually the one who lowered his head and led with the crown of his helmet, which is illegal.
