If anything I'd say this should be advice for average people as well as pro football players. In addition to learning how to say no to sudden new friends as well and often as you do to a bad contract.

But, seems like both sides are hunkering down now.

The L.A. Coliseum's renovations have been completed.

Quote

The renovation, which began in January 2018, dropped the Coliseum’s capacity from 93,000 to 77,500.

Every seat in the stadium was replaced and new suites and 650 video screens were added throughout the stadium. A new south-side structure was added which includes new suites, loge boxes, club seats, a concourse and a press box.

The stadium added new lighting and updated its Wi-Fi and electrical and plumbing systems. Some sections got wider seats, more leg room and extra aisles.

Here's a drone video from last week.

The only aesthetically-pleasing thing about the Coliseum renovation are the new red seats...that ivory tower on the south end makes the rest of the stadium look like an eyesore.

I understand that USC had certain legal restrictions on how they could renovate the place, but (just as an example) it would have been better to chop-off the the top 8-10 rows, and a build a ring of suites and a press box tower, basically going end-to-end to where the two smaller video boards currently sit.  With the Olympics coming back here in 2028, it would have been better to wait a couple of more years to refurbish (and properly rebuild) the Coliseum...USC could have worked out a deal with the Rams, similar to the current arrangement in Exposition Park, and play in Inglewood until the Coliseum renovation was done.  But I guess this is what $315 million ($40 million more than the original costs) in 2010s Los Angeles gets you in terms of stadium renovations...

So the sections on either side of the press tower can't even see the whole field? With some seats only seeing the end zone? Why on Earth would anyone think that is a good idea and who would buy those?

FWIW, USC isn't going to sell obstructed views and apparently doesn't count those seats as part of their official capacity number. As for the Rams, ymmv.

what's the difference between a Loge Box and a Suite?

Capacity.  Loge Box seats only 4.  It is basically a table for 4 with a small TV and access to your own lounge for concessions and restrooms. There is one Loge Box for 8.

EDIT: Loge Boxes are shown at around the 11:25 mark after the suites.

Just AWFUL news out this morning. One of my favorite college football players of all time, Cedric Benson, was killed in a motorcycle accident 😞

Former Longhorns RB Cedric Benson dies in motorcycle accident, reports say

His NFL career was a bit lackluster, but he was one of the most exciting college players I’ve ever seen when he was with the Longhorns. RIP, Ced.

I remember him tearing it up for a few years with the Bengals. He was a damn fun player to watch during his time there I thought. It is terrible to hear he is gone, and far far too young.

Damn. Between this, the two acquaintances I know who've been killed in motorcycle accidents over the last couple years, and the guy I work with who is lucky to be alive after a motorcycle accident two months ago, I think people probably just shouldn't ride motorcycles.

My friend and I always called him CedBenz. He was the only highlight of the 2008 season, 1200 yards for the 2009 out of nowhere division championship, the only highlight of the playoff game against the Jets, and 3 straight 1,000 yard seasons, which bridged the gap between the Palmer eras and the Dalton era. My favorite game of his was the 2009 game against the Bears when the Bengals gave him every opportunity to stick it to his old team.

NFL just launched a channel on Pluto TV as of this morning...it's basically an all-NFL Films channel, including old episodes of Hard Knocks, classic games, team yearbooks, and other material.  As I'm writing, they're playing a Patriots-Dolphins MNF game from 2011--the condensed versions they normally show on NFL Network from time-to-time.

This is exactly what I was clamoring for in the Sports Media Thread a few months ago! Finally the NFL does something good for a change.

I've never heard of Pluto TV so I just checked it out.  Maybe I"m old, but I don't get what I'm looking at.  I'm being forced to watch Roseanne, and it's kinda tough to navigate around.  Where do I find channels?  I see a bunch of on-demand content, but no "channels".

My dad's main television watching is done via Pluto TV these days because it's full of old people shows that are probably cheap to stream. Not sure what your issue is with only seeing on-demand stuff, especially since the couple times I used it the on-demand stuff didn't work.

It's on "channel" 465...thing about it though, you can't directly punch-in the channel number as you could with traditional TV; you would have to scroll down to the sports section, and it's the third channel in that section, behind Pluto Sports and Fox Sports (no live programming, unfortunately, just clips from their studio shows).

I think we're roughly the same age (39), but I watch Pluto TV on occasion if I can't find much to watch on cable, or even over-the-air TV.  Viacom recently bought them, and they've added a lot of material from Paramount Pictures and their cable networks, but they also have some live channels...as far as sports, they carry the Stadium Network, a channel for the Big Sky Conference, plus some other niche sports channels (gaming, wrestling, kickboxing, etc.). CBS' online news channel is also available there (I watch it quite a bit, along with their New York City and Los Angeles channels [on separate apps] as well).  I think it's a decent alternative to cable/satellite/live streaming, but I sure as hell wouldn't give up cable for it either, even if Pluto is a free service.

I think I might be just over the age cut-off between the 'live' TV age and the 'on-demand' age.  Choices are great, but I feel like I just don't have the time to get an app for this, an app for that, scroll through all these categories and choices, search for this, etc.  I guess I can never be a cord cutter because I just want to turn on my TV and flip around until I see something I like, or use Netflix or maybe something specific if there's a very specific show I want to watch (CBS All Access when Discovery is on, for example.

My friend's kids don't even understand the concept of 'live' TV, and genuinely can't understand that you used to have to wait until Thursday at 8PM to watch the next episode of Cheers or Cosby or something.  I'm 'with it' in a lot of ways, but the whole TV thing is something I'm just behind on, I guess.

... or commercials that you can’t just skip after five seconds.

https://boston.cbslocal.com/2019/08/22/patrick-chung-new-england-patriots-news-meredith-new-hampshire-cocaine-arrest/

Quote

Patriots safety Patrick Chung has been indicted in New Hampshire on a cocaine possession charge. Documents released Thursday show Chung was indicted on August 8 for the incident, which police say took place on June 25 in Meredith.

Quote

He is due in court on August 28.

The Patriots issued a statement after news of Chung’s indictment broke.

“We are aware of the reports regarding Patrick Chung. We will not be commenting while his judicial proceedings take place,” the team said.

He restructured his contract earlier this year, so he must have needed quick cash.  That NFLPA pamphlet did not tell them to "front a drug ring".

Plus, its New Hampshire, wouldn't opioids be the more lucrative option?
