CaliforniaGlowin
I just found this on Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_college_sports_team_nicknames It's staggering how many schools have the same name. I knew it was bad, but I didn't know it was THIS bad. 76 SCHOOLS have the team name Eagles. What's so great about that name? A lot of teams have Golden Eagles as well. Now I really wish EMU would change it. Other most common team names are Tigers (46), Bulldogs (40), Panthers (33), Knights (32), Lions (32), Bears (30), Hawks (28), Cougars (27), Pioneers (28), Warriors (27) and Wildcats (27). There's one hilarious one: RI Nads (yes those, mascot and all). Too bad it's a hockey team, a baseball team would have been funnier. I'm surprised only one school has the name Rockets. A lot of schools settled on names before rockets were really a thing. Somebody needs to put together a formula to figure out the most unique state. Arkansas has Muleriders, Boll Weevils/Cottom Blossoms, Wonder Boys/Golden Suns, Razorbacks, Scots/Pipers, and Reddies. I'd like to see a state beat that. Like, really, do that work so I don't have to. I'm legitimately interested.

Indiana has Hoosiers, Boilermakers, Fighting Irish, Jaguars, Sycamores, Aces, but it also has some boring standards like Cardinals and Bulldogs. leopard88
Off the top of my head, Pennsylvania has Marauders, Leopards, Mules, Diplomats, Presidents, Dukes, Bison, Vulcans and Tartans (and common names). Also off the top of my head, Maryland has the Green Terror, Terrapins, Seagulls, Midshipmen, Retrievers, Shoremen, Mountaineers, Gophers, Greyhounds and Blue Jays. So far, Arkansas is winning, in my humble opinion. It's hard to beat Muleriders, Boll Weevils and Wonder Boys. _DietDrPepper_
Kentucky has the Hilltoppers, Colonels, Thoroughbreds and Norse. Then obviously Wildcats and Cardinals. There’s also Racers and Eagles.
