City of Frederick New Logo

Recommended Posts

A few weeks ago, my hometown of Frederick, Maryland unveiled a new logo for the city. However due to severe backlash, city officials announced they will not keep the new logo that they agreed to pay $45k for.

I just drove through Frederick on Saturday evening.

I have to say that I understand the decision.  The wordmark and tagline on the new logo are clean, but the logo itself is too abstract.  It would have been better to just clean up and update the seal with the clustered spires from the old logo.

I much fear serious trouble in the fuselage, Frederick.

The new graphic logo is a huge improvement over that "seal" that isn't really a seal. But losing that beautiful old script would definitely be a downgrade.

if you’re going to make an announcement and reveal a new logo as a big deal, its going to invite negativity. it represents nothing but change, which is uncomfortable. its a terrible logo, but so is the “old” one. its a losing battle from the start.

maybe what they needed wasnt a new logo, and instead of replacing something, maybe they should have added something new? does the city have a flag? maybe that would have been a good route. was the need to increase tourism? maybe a marketing campaign would have solved that.

This appears to be it.

At least 100 years before Disneyland did. :)

The "Clustered Spires" circa the Civil War . . .

In 2019, how do we have city flags with that much religious imagery (assuming those are church steeples)?  I get it's a silhouette of the town, but maybe find something else.
