Seeing a lot of stuff about how Joe Burrow never gave up on his dream. He didn't get recruited by his number 1 school out of high school and then transferred when he wasn't the starter at Ohio State.

When did everyone flip on "Transferring is for millennial kids who can't wait their turn something something participation trophies" to "transferring is known as never giving up on your dreams"?

I think it's dependent on the player and success and who is writing this story.

Pretty much. Remember all of the glowing stories about Jalen Hurts sticking it out at Alabama and how beautiful and wonderful it was?

They did that TWICE!!

2012 was such a farce that I stopped watching college football until the playoff was instituted and it's where I get my stance that rematches suck. Alabama lost to LSU, why do they get a second chance? Why's it fair to LSU that Alabama only has to go 1-1 against them while they have to go 2-0 against them? How's it fair that LSU had to play an extra game than the team they beat? It was a joke and the least legitimate title I've seen in sports. It was the moment when I think everyone went "okay we've lost the thread of what we're doing here." and I think it was the final straw that led to the playoff so at least some good came out of it.

College football is weird in that championships haven't always been the be-all end-all anyways, which is why nobody really bats an eye when Alabama claims 17 national championships.  2012 probably doesn't even crack the top 5 of ridiculous Alabama national championships.

The weirdest claim is a year they lost 3 games, in the 60's maybe, so nope not the weirdest.

What you meant to write was that nobody outside of Tuscaloosa, (the state of) Alabama, or Bama Bandwagoners* really bats an eye when Alabama claims 17 national championships.

*And it's really ridiculous how many of those reside in and around the Nashville area, not to mention my own hometown. They're probably worse than actual Tuscaloosans about their Bama'itis.

*Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. 😁

Does every other SEC school have a massive alumni group somewhere in Tennessee, especially Nashville? They all seem to, other than Vanderbilt of all teams.

I can't speak for the rest of Tennessee, but from what I saw during almost five years of living in Nashville, it's mostly just Bama (!) and UT, at least among the locals*. There is, to include my former chief boss, a small contingent of Ole Miss fans/alumni, and of course some fans of the reptiles (UF, that is). But other than that, yeah it's mostly Bama and UT.

*Of course Nashville is so full of transplants these days you'd have a harder time finding an actual native/local than you would a new resident! And of course, they, like all transplants, bring their existing fandoms with them.

CBS will walk away from the SEC when its contract ends after the 2023 football season, and all indications are that the package will move to ESPN/ABC. CBS decided to exit the negotiations for college football's most-watched TV package after making an aggressive bid in the neighborhood of $300 million per season -- a massive increase from the $55 million it currently pays annually.

Quote

Multiple sources said ESPN/ABC is in the final stages of negotiating a deal that is expected to pay more than six times the $55 million per year fee that CBS currently pays, sources said. Fox Sports execs still are planning to make an official bid presentation at SEC HQ in Birmingham next month. But sources say ESPN’s negotiations are in the final stages. ESPN and Fox Sports would not comment.

I have family in Memphis and it’s the same way. A TON of Bama fans. The majority of which never actually went to Bama, either.

That's a shame. They do a really good job making a game feel like a huge event. There's something about that theme song, the way a 3:30 kickoff transitions into a night game over its course, and the camera angles they pull off that make it special. It's hard to imagine a Saturday without the SEC on CBS.

I'll take solace in Gary Danielson being gone, and at least ESPN makes games move a little quicker because they have another one to get to when ours is over. The extra $20M won't hurt either.

Maybe you didn't mean it that way, but I've never understood this as a criticism. Are there any fan bases for which this isn't true?

CBS, for decades, has had the two most undervalued properties in all of TV: The SEC on CBS package and The Masters.

If Les Moonves was still sexually harrassing women at CBS (with consent from wife, Julie Chen), he'd likely would have stayed in the bidding and both would be collecting them checks.
