Ah, I see the Quebecois Name Generator is in working order.

https://www.google.com/maps/@44.6841277,-63.6018383,17z Here's the area in HFX where they'd build the stadium, if you're like me and enjoy poking around such places on Google Maps. That's some darn fine blight they have there on the Dartmouth side of things. Area around it seems awfully suburban, which doesn't seem to be the norm for CFL stadiums, I think they're all downtown except for the one in Hamilton, which is going to be an odd duck by virtue of being Hamilton.

Important Halifax observation: English Canada never really fell in love with architecture, did it? Most of this country looks like it was built in 1978. Halifax feels especially disappointing. Just hideous brutalism in every downtown except preserved-in-amber Quebec.

Funny you mention this. I just had a client from the GTA tell me about when he was a teenager in the 70s and used to get excited about crossing Niagara Falls to go to the big city of.... Buffalo.

I'm sure one of the many Canadians on this forum will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Canada was more or less content to have Montreal as its center of commerce until the Quebec separatist movement compelled a lot of its bigger corporations to jump to Toronto or further west.

Hamilton will be road team in Grey Cup.  Really hope they wear the yellow pants in the Grey Cup instead of the black.  Solid black pants with sold black socks does not look as good.

Agreed--they look like pyjamas.

As for the game--I think the TiCats will win, but will be cheering for the Bombers who have gone longer without winning.

But I won't be surprised by whichever team wins--although I might be surprised by who they win or what happens in the game

I am mostly hoping for a close ex citing game that goes down to the wire.

Comic Sans walks into a bar, and the bartender says, "Sorry, we don't serve your type here."

Not Canadian, but that is what happened. Toronto rose as Montreal and Buffalo fell, Buffalo falling much further than Montreal did, obviously.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

FWIW...

Quote

TORONTO (November 21, 2019) – As the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Hamilton Tiger-Cats prepare to clash in Calgary this Sunday, Nov. 24 to become the 107th Grey Cup champions, the Canadian Football League (CFL), TSN, and RDS have announced a long-term extension of their partnership.

TSN and RDS will continue to receive exclusive Canadian broadcast and digital media rights in all languages to all pre-season, regular season, and playoff games, as well as exclusive Grey Cup radio rights in all languages.

“To us, this is by far the best partnership in Canadian sport – one built on trust, respect and a shared love of the great game of Canadian football,” said Randy Ambrosie, Commissioner of the CFL. “Our league’s growth strategy, CFL 2.0, is about expansion, innovation, and literally taking on the world. We are thrilled to reach an agreement that allows us to look to the future as we continue to grow with our loyal and committed partners at TSN and RDS by our sides every step of the way.”

The Atlantic Schooners will happen when the following things in sports actually happen:

- MLB resolves their stadium issues in both Oakland and Tampa as well as in a few other places and announces expansion.

- Inter Miami actually has an actual stadium in Miami proper not Ft. Lauderdale.

- The NBA expands to 32 teams

- MLS finally ends expansion

- The NFL fixes their referee issues

- Jameis Winston wins NFL's MVP Award and also a Super Bowl and Super Bowl MVP.  He actually becomes a good QB

The Atlantic Schooners' voyage towards Canadian Football League competition will sail on a bit longer.

The Halifax Regional Municipality's Regional Council has voted - 10-7 - in favor of making a one-time, $20-million contribution towards a community stadium that would play host to a CFL expansion franchise. Said contribution is contingent upon Council and Schooner Sports and Entertainment - the entity that would acquire, own, and operate the football team - agreeing upon a site other than Shannon Park to play host to the facility.

Jacques Dube, the administrative officer for the HRM, said the approved recommendation would set the stage for municipal staff, the team's ownership group, and representatives of provincial government to meet and work out a three-way funding agreement for what SSE envisions as a $120-million stadium with capacity for 24,000 spectators (reportedly 12,000 permanent seats, 10,000 temporary seats, and standing room space for 2,000).

So what colour uniforms will the Atlantic Schooners end up with?  I would be for them going with a maroon uniform.  No other CFL team wearing that colour and it would tie in with the university team in the Halifax Region (Saint Mary's Huskies).

A maroon uniform would look cool in the CFL.
