Rumor: Buccaneers to Get New Uniforms??

Those colors were taken from the Bucs current color pallette, but I see your point. I'll try to find something in between the current orange and the orange they used back in the Bucco Bruce days, which is too close to yellow for my tastes.

I believe they finally got creamsicle orange right for the throwbacks but only in specific applications: #F7954E according to TruColor

While I'm intrigued by the direction in which McCarthy has taken the "Bucco Bruce" logo, there's still a problem area that - to my mind - needs to be addressed. Namely, the feather on the hat. While much is made - and rightfully so - about how the "wink" in the Buccaneers' original logo rendered the mark camp, rather than menacing, I rarely hear anyone comment about the flamboyance of a plume that was nearly equal in size to the pirate's headwear. For the life of me, I don't understand why that is. The feather on the Buccs' original logo looked absolutely asinine.

If the Buccaneers were to even consider centering their logo package around an updated "Bucco Bruce" mark, I would hope that the feather on the character's hat would be eliminated entirely... or, at the very least, significantly downsized. After all, one way to prevent your brand icon from being disparagingly compared to Errol Flynn is to refrain from embracing the costume design tropes of 1930s and '40s Hollywood swashbucklers when creating your logo. In other words, when it comes to piratical headwear, think less Captain Blood and more Pirates of the Caribbean.

yeah the plume feather is weird and always was, especially the way it made their helmets look from the back,

but when you're writing a love letter to Bucco Bruce you gotta use it to capture the same essence.

Here's how I'd helmet this thing, by the way

Maybe I'm just getting used to it but with the all red socks, I'm liking Tampa's look more and more. Obviously just change the number font, simplify the outline, and it may be a nice set.

One of the bigger positives that the Bruce Arians Bucs have had is that he doesn't care about the whole "wear white at home for more than half the season" thing. The only home game the Bucs are scheduled to wear white is in November against Arizona, and that surely was something of a concession the Bucs gave to the Cardinals when they got the rights to sign Arians in the first place.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to compliment the uniforms themselves, but at least they're, you know, wearing red uniforms for at least half their games this season, which is a very nice change of pace. Keep things this way. The uniforms above have that personally-desired B-A-B-A pattern and, for an otherwise-broken uniform, that's the best combination they can swing from it.

That pewter works surprisingly well imo. The orange and red really pop. And the white looks equally great of course

This particular Browns/Buccaneers uniform match-up brings tears of joy to my eyes.  It’s a nice contrast to the tears of despair I weep when their current respective uniforms take the field.

That is a beautiful matchup.

Excuse the crappy use of a helmet template, but I think a white helmet with a three-color tonal stripe looks fantastic with the maroon-heavy logo.

@McCarthy, you made one of the most ridiculed logos in NFL history look both menacing and classy. Well done!

Also have you tried your second Bucco Bruce (with the maroon) on the Pewter helmet?

It’s true to the source material.

though a white feather worked for Flynn, I don’t think it looks good on the Bucs concept.  Throws the color balance all out of whack.

Maybe if there was red and orange accents in there it could improve the look?

This looks fantastic.  I wanted to see what it would look like with different colored plumes, so I took the liberty to do so.

The pewter works best for me, especially on a white helmet. I like them all, too bad we will never get to see it on the field.... Nice work @McCarthy. (love that Reds 4th place banner too.)

I prefer the white feather, but that's just me, The Creator. I tried some red and orange accents and decided I didn't like them.

One thing I did was I put a couple more strokes into the feather to further define it. Here's a few versions.

This is looking nice. I think it’s a little too complex, especially when you start extend it to other merchandise and executions, but the style is working.

The main thing I would look at is the eyes. He looks a bit crosseyed, but I can’t tell if it’s something as simple as moving both eye highlights to the same side instead of having them mirrored, or if the pupils themselves are positioned too far toward the center.

Make those stripes a bit narrower and slide that logo into the proper place, and you've got the makings for a nice modern Bucs look

The purpose here was never to say "this is what I think the Buccaneers logo should be". If that was the case I'd just point to the 1997 logo and walk away. It was always just an exercise to see if I could make update Bucco Bruce to a modern looking mark. The shaded version would look ROUGH in embroidery and small social media avatars, yes, but because I put the work in I like it better than the single color face versions. I'm sure you can relate, haha.

I see what you're saying, but I think it's only a problem when it gets really small.

I'll try moving the highlight to the left side of his right eye (had to think about this for a second, haha). I actually moved the pupils farther out to the sides of his face because positioning them humanly accurately based on my reference photo (my own face) made him look REALLY cross-eyed.

I think a lot of these updates to Bruce are really well done. Unfortunately, Bruce sucks as a logo IMO. Odd dimensions and a bad concept IMO.

Just fix the number font and ditch the chrome facemask (optional IMO).

I really dig the two on the right...the original isn't too bad, but Bucco Bruce looks like something is impaling him. Nicely done.

Someone should ask 103-year-old Olivia de Havilland whether it makes sense to base the design of a sports logo off a poster for a movie she was in as a teen.
