Rumor: Buccaneers to Get New Uniforms??

Recommended Posts

As a long time Falcons fan, I've always hated the Bucs. But this look had nothing wrong with it and has a unique color scheme that's no where else in the NFL. 82882913-baltimore-ravens-vs-tampa-bay-b

Just keep the current logo and bring back the '97 uniforms, including shiny pants. Their current pants are dull and look brown, especially when wet. You can hardly tell the difference between the Browns' pants and the Buccs:spacer.png

Unfortunately, based on what I've read on here, the new fabrics don't come with a glossy/shiny/metallic finish. That's consistent across manufacturers, sadly. The Cowboys and Raiders have both decided that shiny pants are important enough to their identity to use the old fabric and outsource the production to someone besides Nike. Everyone else just wears matte pants.

Incidentally, the Cowboys have been pretty good the past few years with dazzle pants, while the Raiders were already bad and haven't gotten any worse since the other teams switched to the new fabric. This makes me highly doubt the Nike-speak about the importance of the new materials.

I’m honestly flabbergasted more people don’t like it, especially the updated logo. The combo they’re wearing in the pic above is top 5 imo (minus # font).

I know that **technically** opinions can’t be wrong, but this is a wrong opinion😂

Out of curiosity, what else would be in that top five?

Never trust the corporate speak :D

And it's worth noting that new fabrics aren't dazzle for the simple reason that the trend started to skew towards matte across the board around the time Nike got the NFL contract. Matte was in for a while. It still is, but not to the extent that it was.

Dazzle fabrics, on the other hand, were long "the way things were" when it came to football gear. This, in part, led to matte becoming "in" because it seemed fresh and unique after dazzle fabrics being the way things were.

The problem with trends, however, is that they're just that. Trends. Give matte fabrics a long-enough monopoly in the big four and you're going to see more people pine for the dazzle fabrics of the late 90s-mid 2000s. It's already kind of happening in hockey, with the Golden Knights' golden embellishments seeming so fresh and unique after years of matte Reebok/Adidas fabrics. Of course dazzle fabrics were being used in hockey going back to the late 80s, but they fell out of fashion with the Edge changeover eleven years ago. And now one team really playing the dazzle back up again is getting some traction for standing out.

So rest assured, dazzle fabrics will return in pro sports. And when they're popular again? Then Nike will suddenly remember how to make shiny pants :P

As a fan, this is what I’d do. Use current shade of red and orange, current flag and ship and port it on to the previous set. Done.

Creasicle orange is such a dated color, it's solid as an accent secondary color or full throwback, but not as a complete identity  Also the majority of seats in Raymond James Stadium are red, and while stadium seats shouldn't dictate team colors the red would stand out like a sore thumb.

Here's a concept making the rounds from a local podcaster and design guy Samer Ali which takes the red and pewter to a simplified level while leaving a touch of the orange as accent.

Every concept I've seen thus far has kept the font, for the most part, but removed the outlandish outlines that go all over the place.

It's a decent concept. That's what the Bucs need. A solid uniform. Not something overly experimental like the Jaguars duotone gradient helmet or anything that's going to look bad in 3 years tops.

This is definitely a great look which I would be ok with it returning but I'd like to see this without the black outlines/trim...I think it would be a much cleaner look.

I'm a die-hard Panthers fan and I totally agree. This was an absolute modern classic that did not need to be discarded.

I’m not so sure how that set would work without the black, though. Pairing that orange and red right next to each other isn’t a pretty look.

Yeah those colors are much too close to not have black as a barrier.

They didn't have black as a barrier in the road set, and the colors looked great together.

I've been consistent in hating when anyone suggests that a team simply 'goes back' to a previous design, however I'd make an exception in this case.  They really should simply admit a mistake and 'go back'.  If they want to switch it up some, then switch the numbers to a custom but still basic style (like the Texans) but I think that's unnecessary.

If they want to be bold and different, they should go to block font.  Nobody does that anymore.

In other words, go back 100% to the previous...

I would just replace the current home red jersey with the color rush jersey.  And then put it with some updated pewter pants or even white pants.  I think going back to the creamsicle will be like when the Jets went back to the Namath era.  It didn't age well and eventually the enthusiasm for the creamsicles will wear off too.

Coming from an actual resident, the color rush Jersey is mildly popular. So I suspect if the go for a redesign, they’ll base it off those. My best guess would be a full color jersey with the accents of the current one, and maybe a change to the numbers.

I wouldn't normally recommend this but what if the Bucs switch to white helmets (same logo). From there, make mainly red jersey with pewter and orange accents. Then make an alternate orange jersey with red and pewter accents. Basically make it a merging of the Super Bowl and creamsicle eras (without the flirty pirate)

Not to mention that the black outline is needed for the orange in the pant stripes to really show off its fiery "glow" effect, which for me personally was one of the best parts of a very strong uniform set and overall visual brand.

Yeah but it's all contained within a black border, which helps to emphasize the difference between the colors. Without the black border, I don't think it would translate nearly as well visually and the whole thing would just blend together and look really washed out and muddied. That was sort of an issue with the original set. Not so much at home, but the white road set had that issue because there wasn't a contrasting color to balance out the two shades of red/orange.
