Rumor: Buccaneers to Get New Uniforms??

Coming from an actual resident, the color rush Jersey is mildly popular. So I suspect if the go for a redesign, they’ll base it off those. My best guess would be a full color jersey with the accents of the current one, and maybe a change to the numbers.

“Mildly popular” aka not as bad as the regular uniforms but still pretty awful.

Like the Browns - “the most popular jersey in the current set” is not the same thing as “popular”.

Yeah but it's all contained within a black border, which helps to emphasize the difference between the colors. Without the black border, I don't think it would translate nearly as well visually and the whole thing would just blend together and look really washed out and muddied. That was sort of an issue with the original set. Not so much at home, but the white road set had that issue because there wasn't a contrasting color to balance out the two shades of red/orange.

They didn't have black as a barrier in the road set, and the colors looked great together.

Actually, that's what I was pointing out. The barrier/border/outline is still black, and it's needed to make sure the colors don't bleed together.

You don’t need that black stripe on the pants to keep the orange and red from bleeding together.  If it was between the colors, maybe you could make that argument.  But by putting it outside the two against a dark gray background, they showed all too clearly that it isn’t necessary.

I disagree. Take their original road uniforms, for example. Even in still pictures the outline sort of blends together with the base of the number color and sort of muddies the whole look. From any distance and while in motion, those numbers were actually rather difficult to read.

The black border, on the other hand, allows them to keep the same style of number, but the added definition it adds only enhances the differences between the two colors, rather than causes them to blend together. It's a subtle difference, no doubt. But IMO, it's a BIG difference.

My Buccaneers idea has always been the creamsicle set with a recolored and simplified pirate ship logo as the primary but that updated Bucco looks really good, maybe just roll with that. I always hated the uniforms they won the Super Bowl in. Poor man's 49ers.

You can’t compare that to the 1997 uniforms, since the colors aren’t the same.  The red was darkened in 1997 and the orange was amped up from the soft creamsicle to a much more vibrant shade.

Maybe you could argue that the old colors would have blended on the pants, but the newer ones sure didn’t.

This is where I stand. I used to love those uniforms, but I just like the potential of the creamsicle look more. A Virginia Tech-level maroon or something slightly lighter would work wonders with the light orange.

They looked like the dirtier version of the playoff loss/why are we letting Singletary coach Niners. While the Bucs wore it better than the Niners did, neither one was ideal. It just didn’t age that well and the replacement looks even more like clown feces. It’s been so long and so painful since 2002 that I think pewter absorbed some “losing stink.”

I’m down for any logo that isn’t the current flag or ship. New flag, new ship, updated Bucco Bruce, whatever.

In a division where they already have another team with a red home jersey & dark helmet, the orange-heavy creamsicle set would go a long way in setting them apart in that regard as well.

Never once did I ever think they looked anything close like the 49ers.

It’s still a problem, even with the 97-13 set. I own two of the “fashion” black alts and the numbers have a pretty serious issue when the red and orange touch without having the black bordering the lighter color. It just looks wonky.

I honestly don’t know what the problem is.  Low-res graphic aside, that looks fine. As does this:

Neither would be helped by a darker outline in the middle cluttering up the numbers.

Then what's even the point of this board to begin with? 😂

No - they really weren't. Failed first year red outline of orange aside, they were always legible from the stands - unless we were getting 15 inches of snow on game day at Lambeau 🙂

The dude in the back is almost completely blurred out...but it's pretty clear that he's #61.

The actual font was easy to read, especially compared to the current numbers.

There’s a reason for athletic block, after all.  Not as though manufacturers couldn’t make custom number fonts - they have been doing it for baseball since numbers on baseball jerseys were a thing.  But the combination of corners, angles, and deliberate serifs made the font eminently legible.

Counterpoint:

You're all wrong, have awful taste, and should be totally ashamed of yourself and your life choices.

50 Hail Mary's and 25 Our Fathers should suffice.

That's an entirely different effect. The purple helps the yellow pop, even though it's next to white. When you have two, almost identical colors-- paired right on top of each other, it can get a bit superfluous. Red and orange don't offer enough of a difference to stand alone on it's own. The Jersey looks fine to you because it's black, and thus, strengthening the case that those colors need black to work.
