I never bothered to read up on the lottery rules when this whole plan was rolled out because I knew it would be needlessly complicated and stupid. And looks like I was right. I can't stop smiling about what happened to the Red Wings.

Where does "holding a lottery broadcast that ends without announcing a winner" rank in the long-storied history of OITGDNHL? I say top 10 at least.

This is just the epitome of 2020, really. The worst team in the salary cap era gets railed like they're in a porn film while a play-in team gets to have a superstar player added onto their roster.

So then, one of these is going to happen;

  1. Oilers win the Lafreniere sweepstakes because of course
  2. Penguins win the Lafreniere sweepstakes because of course
  3. Jets win the Lafreniere sweepstakes because the NHL wants an illusion of small-market teams being competitive
  4. Flames win the Lafreniere sweepstakes by being mediocre
  5. Hawks win the Lafreniere sweepstakes by being mediocre
  6. Canucks win the Lafreniere sweepstakes and both Edmonton and Calgary erupt into flames over it
  7. Minnesota wins the Lafreniere sweepstakes by being mediocre
  8. Habs win the Lafreniere sweepstakes because French-Canadian superstar on French-Canadian team
  9. Coyotes win the Lafreniere sweepstakes because Taylor Hall
  10. Predators win the Lafreniere sweepstakes by being mediocre
  11. Blue Jackets win the Lafreniere sweepstakes by being anally assaulted by injuries
  12. Leafs win the Lafreniere sweepstakes just to piss on any concept of the draft lottery being fair, and all of Canada burns to the ground because of it

I've been thinking... I feel the NHL should go with Las Vegas and Toronto as their hub cities and here's why.

Each of these cities have 4 arenas that work for each site (Vegas has T-Mobile Arena, Mandalay Bay Events Center, Orleans Arena and Thomas and Mack Center while Toronto has Air Canada Center, Coca Cola Coliseum and then the Paramount Fine Foods Center and the CAA Center in the suburbs).

For the seeding round, one site is used (T-Mobile Arena and Air Canada Center). You can easily get two games a day at each site and times can be staggered for maximum views. After a week of play, you head into the Qualifying Round.

In the Qualifying Round, the four sites mentioned at each site hosts one series. This helps in terms of safety and testing because teams aren't going to be going from one place to another at any point in the series.

An example of this schedule could be like this:

Eastern Conference Qualifying Round

(12) Montreal vs. (5) Pittsburgh - Coca Cola Coliseum

(11) NY Rangers vs (6) Carolina - Paramount Fine Foods Center

(10) Florida vs. (7)NY Islanders - CAA Center

(9)Toronto vs. (8) Columbus - Air Canada Center

Western Conference Qualifying Round

(12) Chicago vs. (5) Edmonton - Orleans Arena

(11) Arizona vs. (6) Nashville - Thomas and Mack Center

(10) Minnesota vs. (7) Vancouver - Mandalay Bay Events Center

(9) Winnipeg vs. (8) Calgary - T-Mobile Arena

The top four seeds are placed at one of the sites after the seeding round ends. For example, the #1 seed would face the winner of the 8 vs. 9 series at the main sites.

The conference semifinals would see the sites shrink from four to two at each hub city. The conference finals would be held at the main sites and then the Stanley Cup Finals would be held at one of the hub cities.

I mean what else is there to say? This is too funny. Only the NHL could have "TBD" win a draft lottery and I'm so happy it happened.

LOOK HERE! LOOK! LISTEN! Running a lottery several times does not f--king stop it, so stop giving advice you know nothing about!

Ban anybody trying to give me lottery advice, real tawk.

I am personally hoping for number 13: Rangers defeat Hurricanes on the way to the Stanley Cup, win the Lafreniere sweepstakes because they own the Hurricanes first round pick

The pick the Rangers got from Carolina was conditional, in that they get the lower draft pick of the two Carolina has. If Carolina wins the Lafreniere sweepstakes, they don't give up that pick to the Rangers, the Rangers would get the lower of the two picks.

So if the Canes get Lafreniere, they get Lafreniere.

Whoops! That's what I get for not checking

I'm assuming whoever wins the Stanley Cup will live stream their team celebration, with fans watching from home.

Because I don't think a parade with thousands of fans gathered in one congested area is a good idea.

Unfortunately it probably depends on the state.

If Tampa wins The Cup, expect a parade or at the very least thousands of people out celebrating like there was a parade.

Pittsburgh & Boston would probably be more reserved.

I would assume that NHL players based in America would be exempt from the travel ban by Canada.

I've been wondering about this myself.  I mean, of course they will because big sports and all, but still.

I know this is an usual year and this may be one of those that gets an asterisk, but I would not mind at all if theirs a first time Stanley Cup winner for the third straight year.  I watched the last two Stanley Cup Finals because of the possibility of first time Stanley Cup Champions.

Say what you will about Northlands, but at least it never fell apart in a thunderstorm. All that fighting and threatening to move to Seattle for a b-tch-ass Hartford Civic Center crossed with an airport terminal.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

I personally think the worst thing about Rogers are the seats.

They’re pretty tight and the upper deck is quite steep. There were the occasional PSA’s on the screens and by the PA guy reminding everyone to sit back in their seats because if the person in front of you lean forwards, you won’t be able to see.

The airport terminal discription is apt with that outside-inside part before actually getting into the arena/concourse part.
