The St. Petersburg Suns have never been a very strong program, but are always good for an upset every now and then. Up until 2003, the Suns were known as the Redskins, but they changed their name and logo while keeping the same colors from before.

Thanks everybody for all the feedback!!!

To finish off the Big Southern, we have the UTFW Stampede. A relatively newer school, UTFW has done relatively well making a few playoff appearances, but they haven't ever made it to the title game. Other than the addition of a green uniform, the Stampede have had the same look since day one.

Up next are the Indy State Lions. The Lions have a long history of excellent defense but in recent years haven't gotten much in the way of offense leading to their current streak of 9 losing seasons. It hasn't always been bad though with the Lions winning 3 GLA titles over the years.

Up next we head to Kalamazoo for the Kalamazoo State Kodiaks. The Kodiaks have had periods of great success including a national championship (has nothing to do with being the year I was born and the city I was born in....) but they have also had long droughts as well. They are currently a program on the rise.

Go Flames! All of the Great Lakes conference has looked great so far! Just curious, why Flames for Lexington

The University was originally a private Pentecostal institution, and flames are a major part of their symbolism.

And why Comets for Grand Rapids?

This one's kind of an odd one, but there was a recent news story here in GR that a farmer had been using a meteorite worth about $100,000 as a doorstop for years. That and we have several large meteorites found here in the GR area.

Up next are the Minnesota Tech North Stars who get their name from the motto on the state's flag and seal "l’étoile du nord". The North Stars have had a long-standing rivalry with the St. Paul Geminis of the MWAC. They have worn green and brown (like military fatigues) since World War II when the university regularly commissioned hundreds of officers through their ROTC program.

Up next are the Saginaw State Firebirds. Originally known as the Indians, the University still went with a Native-inspired mascot which was far more acceptable. The Firebirds have a modern look using a fire "gradient" on their uniforms.

Next from Southern Ohio are the Pike. They get their branding and colors from the big mean fish that inhabit the area. The Pike have a major rivalry with Cincinnati State that often leads to fights and craziness on-field. It is considered one of the best rivalries in college sports.

Now we head to St. Louis for the Rivermen who get their striping from the state flag. The Rivermen have had some really solid teams over the years winning the GLA and before moving over, the Frontier conference, but they have never made it to a National Championship game.

St. Louis State University

Location: St. Louis, Missouri
Type: Public University
Founded: 1914

We conclude this project with one of the toughest teams in the nation, the Wisconsin State Warriors. The Warriors were an independent team up until the late 1990s when they joined the GLA despite the MWAC being a stronger conference. Because of this, a lot of midwestern football fans always complain about the Warriors being overrated and not playing anyone. Despite this, they are regular contenders for the National Title.

Wisconsin State University

Type: Public University
Founded: 1925

Major Rivals: UPU, Wisconsin

National Championships: 3 1991, 2000, 2013

National Championship Runner-Up: 2 1984, 1995
