For years I had a vague fondness for the Braves given their ties to Ted Turner, the man who gave us Cartoon Network and Boomerang. I really liked the Turner networks in general before Time Warner ruined them.

None of these things were suppose to happen. This was suppose to be predictable (or maybe it really was). I'm rooting for the Nats from here on out, but the fear of a STL-NYY World Series is becoming more imminent.

I mean, we were just barely spared a Yankees-Dodgers World Series in 2017, be glad we won't be getting that this year either.

When is it time to start talking about these Dodgers among the biggest playoff chokers we’ve seen in a while? I think it’s right here and now. One of baseball’s biggest payrolls for years, the best pitcher of our generation (plus some really good starters behind him), and a lineup that consistently featured really good hitters, tons of division titles, and yet could never win the big one.

Congratulations Nationals, you guys made your first legitimate NLCS in franchise history. You also vanquished an old foe in the NLDS Game 5.

St. Louis has history on their side, but it's a winnable series.

Whoda thunk that losing Harper might have been the best thing to ever happen to this team?

It’s unique but not fun. It’s a poorly located warehouse that they decided to play baseball in. Other domes atleast know how to get natural light in and not look like you are inside a warehouse, catwalks and all. I don’t know if you have ever been to the stadium but it is in probably the worst location you could think of in Florida. Outside of in the middle of the Everglades somewhere but even then it’s probably easier to get to.

I was staying in St. Pete so I didn't have a hard time getting to it. My perspective might be different than yours but I thought the corny-ness of the stadium is fun and that it certainly has character. Pretty much every Retro Classic stadium I have been to is virtually the same so I enjoyed having a different experience. Not everything has to be the same and I think there is something positive about having two crappy stadiums in baseball.

Here's my day after take of what happened:

The plan was to bring in Kershaw for a clean inning.  You'd think that would have been the 7th since Buehler was almost at 100 pitches at that point.  Instead Buehler's left out there and proceeds to bean Suzuki.  That should have prompted Maeda to come in and clean up the mess with Kershaw saved for a clean 8th.  But, no, they left Buehler out there to go to his highest career pitch total and they decided to bring in Kershaw with two men on.  That in and of itself was not ideal.  But, three pitches and he was out of it... and that's the problem.

You bring in a starter out of the pen, have him throw three pitches, then allow him to sit for the bottom of the inning and then go right back out there.  Of course he gave up two straight homers on consecutive pitches. He was essentially cold with his rhythm out of whack in the 8th! And after the Rendon shot, WHY WAS SOTO KILLER KOLAREK NOT WARMED AND READY?! Even giving Roberts a mea culpa on Rendon, how the hell could you not have Kolarek/Maeda ready to preserve a one-run lead?

Now, the 9th inning worked with Kelly.  Jansen has historically been awful in non-save situations so I see that working.  But, Kelly this year has been abysmal when sent out for multiple innings.  So, he gives up a walk, which should have prompted the hook, then the double, AND THEN HERE COMES SOTO WITH KOLAREK STILL AWOL! So, Roberts gives Soto the free pass with Kolarek chained to the bullpen fence and lets a clearly tired Kelly (who looking at his pitch selection was very un-Kelly like with sticking to low breaking balls and only throwing one or two 99 mph fastballs) pitch with the bases loaded.

This one isn't on Kershaw. And while a little more guilty, it's not on Kelly either.  This is all on Roberts.

I don't know which fate is worst: Getting cold cocked in the 1st Inning like Atlanta had or seeing a game and series ending Grand Slam end your hope like LA had.

Would you rather fall into a wood chipper head first or feet first?

Second time this postseason I've gone to sleep when the Nationals were down and woken up to a comeback win to advance.

I will obviously be pulling for the Nationals in the NLCS, but I fully expect the Cardinals and their worst of all playoff teams wRC+, worst of all playoff teams slugging, worst of all playoff teams on base percentage, to inexplicably hit .500 with runners in scoring position exclusively on weak ass broken bat bloop doubles. This is 2011-2014 all over again.

I and most fans will agree that the game, in a vacuum, is not on Kershaw.  A lot of people are putting it on Roberts.

That said, it still becomes "on Kershaw" in a sense. Because that's the talk now...another bad postseason appearance. It's on him, in terms of the impact of his legacy.

It's too bad.  After the Twins lost, I'd have been perfectly happy seeing the Dodgers win it all with Kershaw winning World Series MVP.  But I'm not convinced he has it in him.  It's too bad.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

This is pretty much the first time where I truly believe that.

I used to think it was probably just a combination of bad luck happening at the worst time, with just a hint of nerves. That happens to all of us on occasion, and even though it's happened to him a LOT, it seemed purely coincidental and like something he could inevitably get past.

At this point, though? I just don't think he's built for that kind of pressure. Some people just aren't. You would think an all time great pitcher like him would be, but that just doesn't seem to be the case.
