MadmanLA Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 The New England Sports Network, the cable TV home of the Boston Red Sox and Bruins since 1984, is debuting a new logo starting with the just-underway NHL season. The old one (in use pretty much since day one): The new:
The_Admiral Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 Doesn't look like a sports channel at all. Looks like a telecommunications company. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
neo_prankster Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 When you think about it, 35 years is a pretty impressive run for NESN without having been taken over by Fox, Comcast, Root, AT&T or Sinclair. That said, it's pretty said to see the old logo be retired after so long. The Fictional Story of Austus
Digby Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 That's terrible. Don't fix what ain't broke and happens to be one of the more enduring brands in all New England.
RyanMcD29 Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Not only is the new logo terrible, but their BottomLine is a direct ripoff of ESPN's Twitter: @RyanMcD29
TrueYankee26 Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Old on the top new on the bottom. EDIT: Whoops, did not see this thread: trueyankee26.wordpress.com
TrueYankee26 Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Looks more like a technology company.. Meanwhile the old one screams Go Sox/Bruins we are wicked good this yeah Boston Strong. trueyankee26.wordpress.com

axiom20xx Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 big time bummer. my father just passed and he's from Massachusetts, have very fond memories of that logo from going back there and watching Sox games with him over the past couple years.
Dynasty Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Need to see how it's used on TV. Was the old one suppose to be a ticket? That's what it always looked like to me.
MattMill Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 So I'm browsing their website and they have the new N logo with NESN next to it everywhere Isn't that overkill? Doesn't that read off as NNESN Terrible move. One of the more iconic logos lost.
BadSeed84 Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Why must the N's have stupid notches? All the comments on their site is calling it stupid and not neccesary. "it sucks. great for a pharmaceutical company, though."
Pharos04 Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Wow that is a huge downgrade. Yeah the original was meant to emulate a ticket as NESN was originally marketed as “your ticket to New England sports”. The wavy N is probably meant to invoke a strip of tickets or something but it just looks like a conjoined mess. Sad to see an iconic logo go
kroywen Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 If they wanted to change the logo, a simple modernization would've sufficed. The ticket logo was recognizable and a really good, basic design. Guess we may be moving away from the era of flat logos (to my dismay), because they replaced a very longstanding flat logo with something in chrome.
Lights Out Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 The previous logo is very late-'80s/early-'90s, so I could totally understand them wanting to modernize it, but this is a downgrade. The new logo looks more appropriate for a hotel or a resort instead of a sports network. POTD: 2/4/12 3/4/12
kolob Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 It feels like they gave themselves the Dolphin treatment. "I always wanted to be somebody, but now I realize I should have been more specific." Lily Tomlin
Ferdinand Cesarano Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 The stylised N is very nice. The shadows and the faux-3D are terrible.
kmccarthy27 Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 I feel a network goes with a logo like this when channel drift happens. Wonder if Sinclair has bigger plans for these RSNs
