I have an idea: Put their new stadium in Montreal, and rename them the Expos!

You finally get out of the only Ballpark that out :censored:holes Oakland's, AND you get infinity more fans!

I'm not aiming this at you, but simply everyone - Why oh why does every time a Rays stadium proposal come up people just say "Let's build them a stadium in Montreal!" Honestly, what did Montreal ever really do for the Expos? Sure, they act now like every single person was an Expos fan,

but they were having issues in attendance as well. And then people point out the attendance issues for the Rays, they don't take into account that this is a team with a straight out terrible stadium that is located in the middle of nowhere and have had only 3 or 4 winning records in team history. Let's not get too carried away here - when the time comes to expand, Montreal will get their team back.

*takes deep breath and prepares to make same rant in around two months or so*

(Although if they moved about 90 miles and 2 hours inland, I wouldn't complain:P)

You're wrong that Montreal never did anything for the Expos; they supported the team quite well in the '70s, '80s, and early '90s, at not one but two lousy places to see a ballgame. You're also probably wrong that they'll ever get a team again unless Bell decides a billion dollars is what it costs to program TSN for six months a year.

I hope the Rays get an outdoor park somewhere in Tampa-St. Pete or Orlando. There's nowhere else to put a team and I hate the Trop too.

Pie in the sky outcome is Vinik buys them or somehow helps them get over to his rejuvenated Channelside, right by the Ice Palace, err, where the Lightning play. If 1/10 of the success and stability he's brought to the hockey team could be rubbed off on the baseball team, hoo boy!

I was actually just joking- I want the Rays and and the A's to get stadiums and stay where they are,

as for expansion, Montreal probably needs a ballpark first, because Olympique stadium might seriously out :censored:hole Tropicana

They definitely need a ballpark. Downtown. Olympic Stadium's location is terrible. The previously proposed location just east of the Bell Centre would've been perfect, but there's plenty of other places. Montreal is a pedestrian city. Not driver-friendly whatsoever. It must be easily accessible by foot, metro line or bus, which Olympic wasn't very easily. There's one stray subway line going north.

I don't have an opinion on Montreal, but the Tampa Bay Area has a shameful attendance history.  Even when the Rays were good, even when they led the AL East every single day of the season, the players were reduced to calling out their own fans for lack of support.

Maybe a new stadium would help.  Maybe not.  But in the meantime it's been nothing short of embarrassing for baseball.  So if you're wondering why relocation keeps coming up in these discussions, that's why.

My initial reaction is God I hope not, but if it keeps us from having a future Las Vegas Athletics, I'm cool with it.

There's this city in Canada that could use a team. Can't quite remember the name of it right now though... starts with an M....

Manitoba? Wait, no, that's a province... hmm...

If MLB had to do it over again, were the Florida expansions worth it?

One was plenty, two was just overexposure.

Under good ownership, a team could thrive in Florida. However, both teams have had shoddy ownership. The Marlins have had to deal with off-field problems with their owners and the scams that Loria pulled to get their current stadium built. The Rays moved into a horrendous stadium in a less-than-ideal location with the Tampa Bay Area (St. Petersburg) which has hampered their ability to be competitive.

If anything, have a team in either Miami or Tampa and use that other 1990's expansion slot on a D.C. team. That way, there may be a small chance of the Expos sticking around in Montreal.
