You know, I'd actually love the 4th of July to be a throwback weekend instead of the star and stripes ... how cool would it be if the whole weekend was teams in throwbacks from the 30s or 40s ... including expansion teams wearing time era appropriate throwbacks or fauxbacks.

Just a thought.

Wasn't a fan of these at all. They reminded me of a Lids custom, and that is NOT a good thing.

So you'd have to make up completely new designs for half of MLB for a single weekend?

IMHO, this was the worst Mariners set ever, with a font that looks like bad Clip-art...

To me, it almost looks like they were going for some "wild west" look/font, which makes no sense.

Why not? That could be fun. I'd much rather have a fauxback than stars and stripes. Plus, they do that for Players Weekend and (use to) for Mothers/Fathers/etc. Weekend.

How about all teams wear fauxbacks to 1776? 😉

Fair enough.  Didn't think about the players weekend whatnot.  Though, any sort of 40's throwback presumably would necessitate redesigned "old" logos for teams that weren't around, whereas those players/mothers/fathers day weekends use the existing logos in different colors.  I'm not saying it wouldn't be neat, just that, to do it right would be a fair amount of effort.

Do the Red Sox become the Redcoats for a series?  Yankees become Continentals? haha.

I think there’s definitely potential there for some cool designs. I’d love to imagine what teams like the Rays, Marlins and Astros would look like in the ‘40s.

True. That would also bring up the question of do the Orioles go with the St. Louis Browns or minor league O's? More than anything, I think it would be a fun concept for a weekend.

I guess there was the international league AAA Miami Marlins from '56-60 they could start from:

Throwback weekend would be awesome. But not a specific year across the board, do it series by series. So if the Marlins play the rockies and dbacks Ray's they where throwback according to what they woulda wore in say 98 or 93.

Giants/ A's would do late 70s pullovers etc...

That’s why it makes more sense for the Mariners, not the Brewers to throwback to the Pilots. Does anyone second guess it? No because the Mariners play in Seattle like the Pilots did. It’s why the Nationals Senators inspired BP cap was so well received, same city. Heck, the Nationals use the Senators curly W. Where are the Expos in this? They aren’t. Before this Expos inspired game this coming Saturday, it has been the Blue Jays that have been reminding us of the Expos with their now annual preseason game in Montreal. It has seemed fitting that the remaining Canadian team has done something to keep alive the memory of its former fellow-Canadian peer

I think it would be awesome if the Blue Jays would rock Expos uniforms for the annual series they play in Montreal every year until Montreal officially gets a team. This would be better than the Nats rocking the uniforms.

To me it makes sense for both of them to do it (as indeed both have done).

Actually, the Nationals should be the Blue Jays' opponents in those annual pre-season games.  And, in those years in which the Nationals play the Blue Jays in interleague play, they should host those games in Montreal, as well.

TBTC games/apparel (turn back the clock) has been around for awhile now. Does anyone know if it was ever worn league wide all at once?

I wish MLB would concentrate on one larger theme (league wide throwback event) vs 4-5 of these other crap events

As far as these caps. Some of these logos are quite odd. Some have never been on caps, and for good reason. They're bad logos. And what sucks is. Some of these logos are great and not often made in regular fashion. So in some sense, they are wasted here as a flag themed hat.

My stance on Throwbacks is that it should belong to whatever team’s history it belongs to. For example, The Nationals would get the Expos, Twins/Rangers would get the Senators/Nationals/Senators 2.0, the Brewers get the Pilots, the Yankees get Orioles 1.0, the Orioles get Brewers 1.0 and Browns, while teams like the Giants, Dodgers, Braves, and Athletics would (of course) get their namesake.

If a Team went defunct, then it would go to the city/state because no team has any future “history.” So the Indians would get the Spiders, Nationals would get the NL Senators, Orioles get the NL Orioles, and all the Negro and FL Uniforms will still go to Cities.

Also, not involving the above, but I would love for a league-wide “Turn Back The Clock” Thursday. A good way to do so would have the first Thursday of each Month be TBTC Day. If your team didn’t play, then they will do it on Friday. Both teams will be wearing throwbacks, and they should both be from the same year.
