I’d say it’s inferior, by virtue of history and aesthetics.

History, maybe. Aesthetics, though? Debatable.

While I don't dislike the Kelly, I much prefer the Forest and the standard home whites and home caps.  To me it looked pretty bad when the players were wearing the forest hoodies with the Kelly jerseys and caps.

I'm not going to run down the forest green years as symbolic of some massive decline or failure, but it's gotta be kelly green. If the A's can't embrace color, who can?

Well forest green, while some may think it look better, is symbolic of the team constantly flopping in the playoffs and winning a single World Series. Said World Series was also surrounded by death and destruction (but because it was against the Giants, it saved many lives in the areas - Bay Bridge collapse), so it’s not like it was enjoyable either.

Kelly Green should come back. It needs to come back. Also, moving the “Athletics” script to an alternate and using the “A’s” insignia on the home uniform would also be nice (think a white version of the current green alt). It gets them looking more like the A’s.

The “Athletics” script is a leftover from the “Yankee farm team” period of 1955-60 (Arnold Johnson was a colluding bastard). Besides, the ‘94-‘13 green alternate looked awful. Gold with white outlines looks bad.

They’ve been doing the current look for 30+ years, but it’s been a 30+ year mistake.

Absolutely everything about this is as correct as can be.  Thank you for this post.

The best design for the current period is the one that the team had for a few years starting in 1981, even though they didn't wear it all the time even in those years.

With kelly green this would be perfect.  With the dark green it is still great.

The Kelly green looked great during the Wild Card game. However, the problem I have with the color is that half the time, it turns into a mucky or limey shade under certain lighting. This is more evident in their older Kelly green uniforms during the 1970's.

The Minnesota North Stars had this issue as well, where their uniforms looked olive rather than Kelly. The Philadelphia Eagles used to look lime sometimes when they wore their Kelly green uniforms.

I really liked the forest green "Oakland" pullovers they used shortly after. The gold ones were nice as well. Not sure if they'd work as button down jerseys, but I'd love to see either one used for a Turn Back The Clock game sometime.

I’ve said 400 times that the A’s should only have an A (not even ‘s) on their jerseys. Maybe put a city on the road, but not necessary. I’m not even sure I want to see the script on an alternate, but maybe on a green one, with the A being on a yellow one.

their an old AF team, regardless of location, so they should look more like it.

I never had a strong preference for one over the other, but I think these last few comments have put me over the edge in favor of kelly green and "A's" over "Athletics."

Only drawback is, now baseball is without a forest green team, and there's really not an obvious candidate for who that could be, if anyone.

Rockies - Forrest green and purple. Done.

That could work, provided the purple stays brighter and Forest Green doesn't touch purple. Go heavy on the purple, of course. There are also other options:

Seattle - rebrand as the "Rainiers," go for Forest Green and Rainier Red (186 C, with a special name). It might be time to throw away the "Mariners" name in favor of the historical PCL club sobriquet and up the "Vintage Pacific Northwest" branding.

Rays - bring back Forest Green, but pair it with powder blue or lime green. Better yet, re-embrace the gradients for the two accent shades!

Twins - dump navy/red for Forest Green/Scarlet (186 C again)/Creme.

Cleveland - rebrand as the "Forests"/"Forestmen" and adopt the dark green as the primary shade with a different accent color than red.

There are plenty of options, some more realistic than others.

That's honestly the problem for me. Forest green+yellow is one of my favourite color schemes, and I'd miss it if no one was wearing it. Same with the navy/yellow padres(Brewers, im looking at you full time. Also, royal blue and yellow)

Besides, I really think the Rockies would do best with just purple and white.

Purple, silver, and white (kind of like a K-State or Furman look).

Silver for the silver boom.

Purple hats with silver letter(s) outlined in white would be pretty great.
