Eh, that wouldn't bother me.  Few clubs really need a more complicated logo than their cap logo.

It'd bother me in that it is so generic and just unoriginal. The "Angels Baseball" roundel with the A is another example. Give me something that took more than two minutes to create.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Part of me wouldn’t mind Cleveland dropping the “Indians” script from their home uniform in favor of the “Cleveland” block wordmark. It doesn’t work well for the Texas Rangers, but it’d be effective for Cleveland (emphasizing city over controversial nickname/downplaying the nickname as much as possible).

Dumping the navy jerseys would also be a good idea, if only because they’re associated with the team’s numerous choke jobs in the playoffs (the nineties teams, 2016, and 2017). I’d prefer a red jersey for them, with the city wordmark.

Yeah, but for a logo that’s almost never seen?  I wouldn’t want it on the sleeves, but if they need something for the occasional newspaper ad or charity sponsorship announcement it’s fine.

Even though I'm in favor of a name change, that'd be a huge hit to their look. The script Indians is gorgeous and maybe the last unique and cool element left in their identity. Switching to block Cleveland on the home AND roads along with just the block C caps would be terrible.

Oh, it wouldn’t be a permanent solution AT ALL. It’s a way to ease the transition away from the name and to brainstorm an appropriate replacement/focus group several options (logo variants/color scheme changes or redistribution/etc.).

If the Indians were smart (I don’t think they are), they would take this as an opportunity to ditch everything and start over. Their color palate is miserably over saturated, their name is hokey at best, offensive at worst, and their extended history, while lengthy, isn’t prestigious enough to make it a huge loss to anyone.

Cleveland Spiders/Spinners/Something new/ect FTW.

Again, I'm in favor of a name change, but it's really easy to say that it wouldn't be a huge loss to anyone when you aren't a fan of that team.

Spiders just doesn't work for me, not sure how Indians comes off hokey while Spiders passes the smell test. I've seen solid logo concepts but as a name I don't love it. BUT, I do essentially agree that they should just move forward. My hope is that they'd either try to keep a jersey set that provides continuity between identities while changing names/logos OR they go completely different and try to go for a color scheme that is unique both in MLB and the city of Cleveland (none of that "Baseball Browns" crap).

“Hokey”?

The problem with the Indians name is not that it’s hokey.

SELF EDIT to keep the thread on track: It's definitely not hokey.

Just putting it out there that these are my favorite Brewers scripts of all time and I think they outclass the 1982 scripts in every imaginable way (the home more-so than the road, which is basically this minus the tail).  I hope they're considered as part of a long overdue rebrand.

Not that I wouldn't mind seeing this, but I'm guessing because of the association with Miller, the current script M isn't going anywhere no matter what they do.

In case it was unclear, that word came from the post I quoted. And neither I nor the person I quoted are under the impression that hokey-ness is what's wrong with the name.

As shocking as this may seem, next year marks 25 years since MLB celebrated 125 years with jersey patches and those nifty hat pins. Anyone think they'll do the same for 150 next year or worry that the anniversary patches are cursed (thanks to the '94 strike)?

That resemblance is way overblown.  I don't think it was intended, nor do I think it's compelling.  I really don’t think that the Brewers would keep a logo around just to appease one of their sponsors.  It's not as though a Miller owns the club.

Diamondbacks are installing synthetic turf at Chase Field for 2019.

Citing concerns for costs in maintaining a real grass field, difficulties in keeping it green and alive, consistent playing surface, costs in opening and closing the roof, air conditioning costs, complaints from fans of the stadium being too warm.

That's probably a smart move in the desert.   and synethic grass is much nicer now.

We talked about this just a couple of years ago on this board. The name is acceptable, the logo had to go.

Plenty of Native groups do identify as "American Indian". There's are huge museum in DC with "American Indian" on it. It's not a bad word.

Can someone please help me figure out what we are and aren't allowed to post about when it comes to The Topic That Shall Not Be Named But Literally Has Its Own Thread And Is Also Being Talked About Here

concepts: washington football (2017) ... nfl (2013) ... yikes
