Are you changing the Las Vegas Logo, or did you forget to add the logo to the map?

I'll be making some changes. I also realized now that I've got El Paso instead of San Antonio.

I love every detail on Oylimica logo. It is all right on 3 teams in California looked too similar. Unless if you are planning on a change of colors on San Diego logo. You gotta try to do AAF's San Diego colors on it. Think it might stand out better?

The AAF colors ended up looking a little more washed out than I had hoped. Here's a look as some slightly altered San Diego Loyal SC colors and a slightly updated crest shape.

Here's a crest shape update for Ursa, I like this shape quite a bit better than the last.

Which makes these the Cali clubs. I think there's a fair amount of differentiation between their shapes now.

If I can make a suggestion, the Boston Muses. Massachusetts and New England have a proud tradition of female authors and poets.

I like that. I've been trying to come up with something witchy since Salem is so near to Boston.

Love what you did with LA and Sacramento. The only thing I'm not feeling with the Waves logo are the colours. Maybe instead of that dark teal, go back to the navy blue you had earlier?

Just as a quick suggestion. Maybe seeing as you have most of the MLS cities getting a team maybe San Jose, Nashville, and or Dallas get a team. Mainly San Jose to balance out the CA sides to 2 each of northern and southern California but I would definitely consider bringing those cities in. Just throwing it out there.

What a phenomenal lineup of badges for the California-based NWSL clubs! I love the tweaks to the shapes of the Sacramento and San Diego badges, though I think swapping Navy Blue for the Deep Grey would better suit the latter mark. The Olimpica mark is terrific, as well. The Art Deco styling and the Owl of Athena are particularly inspired. Great work!

I've been trying to come up with something... Boston.

Boston Banshees FC
* Identity ties to Boston's Irish heritage, similar to that of the NBA's Boston Celtics;
* Color scheme of Green, Silver Grey and Red-Orange;
* Crest  centered upon the image of the harbinger of death in Irish folklore - a keening woman with flowing red hair, garbed in a grey cloak over a green dress;
* Supporters group could be dubbed "The Wailers"

The Mórrígan FC, Mórrígan Boston FC, or Mór-Rióghain FC
* Identity ties to Boston's Irish heritage, similar to that of the NBA's Boston Celtics;
* Color Scheme of BlackGreyRed
* The Mórrígan's name translates to "great queen". In Celtic mythology, she was a patron goddess of warfare and warriors, one capable of inciting humans to enter into conflict and - once battle had been joined - foretelling the fates of those involved in the hostilities. She inspired certain combatants to engage in acts of great heroism, filled the hearts of others with crippling fear, and ultimately determined who lived and who died;

* Crest centered upon the image of the Babd or hooded crow, a form that the shape-shifting Mórrígan was thought to assume while flying over battlefields and surveying the warfare (perhaps a shield and spear/sword could also be worked in as elements)

The Salem Witch Trials make up one of the uglier parts of American history and might not be the best go-to. I've always liked Boston Banshees, and have toyed with the name myself, so you might try that. Muses is interesting, and the history works well. Or maybe Boston Academics, though the Greek-with-owl thing that I would gravitate to for that is already used in your amazing LA concept.

Great suggestions. I started down a road for the Boston club, but may revisit for a Banshees name. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the New England Curse. I've been pretty obsessed with The VVitch since it came out, and I love witchy goat imagery. There might be some turned off by the pentagram, but that's not a pentagram, it's just a stylized soccer ball.

Imagine a Jehovah's Witness trying to preach the "Good News" to someone wearing a replica jersey of that.

4 clubs left, and I'm pretty sure I know which cities.

  • Washington
    • Do we like 'Spirit'?
  • Chicago
    • Do we like 'Red Stars'?
  • San Antonio
    • Zorras
    • Calaveras
    • ?
  • Albuquerque
    • Duchess
    • Enchantment
    • ?

I'm open to changing out San Antonio or ABQ for other western cities, but I think Cali is full enough. Maybe Denver, Phoenix, Kansas City, OKC?

Design-wise, you've once again nailed it. You're spot-on in capturing the aesthetic of occult imagery.

That said, this strikes me as being a case where your design capabilities are so good that they'd invite criticism if this logo were actually rolled out as part of the identity package for a National Women's Soccer League franchise. It's one thing for countless teams dubbed the Devils or Demons to trot out logos featuring comical caricatures of their namesake mascot, quite another to create a primary mark that many would view as being indecipherable from occult imagery. It could prove particularly problematic in Boston.

You have to understand, a National Women's Soccer League team in the Greater Boston area would be operating in a very crowded, extremely competitive sports marketplace. The region is home to tremendously well-supported MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL franchises, as well a Major League Soccer team that's already struggling to attain - never mind maintain - relevance on the local sports scene. Facing that sort of situation, I believe ownership/management of an NWSL club in the region would err on the side of going after the "low-hanging fruit" when it comes to building an initial fanbase. In other words, they're going to target female youth soccer players and their families before they even give a thought to trying to build a supporter culture amongst young, single professionals or die-hard club soccer fans. Short sighted? Maybe. Then again, not every NWSL market is Portland, where the local major pro sports scene consisted of just the NBA's Trailblazers until top-tier soccer came along.

In any event, the point I'm trying to make is that a Boston/New England NWSL team would feel that it had to to cater to the youth soccer/family crowd in order to get itself up and running... indeed, to carve out a space for itself in a saturated sports marketplace over the long haul. They'd want to own that niche. In that scenario, I just don't believe said team would adopt a brand identity that leaned into occult imagery. They'd fear that it wouldn't fly with the majority of their target audience... and, frankly, there's every reason to believe that they'd be correct.

For Washington, Spirit seems quite... vague. Since DC likes the bird motive so much, why not with the state bird of DC? Washington Thrush FC? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wood_thrush

Chicago Red Stars is alright with me. I really can't think of another name.

San Antonio Zorras has a nice ring to it, but wasn't it previously mentioned that there was a team called the Athenians? Maybe we can explore with that.

Since the New England Curse already exists, I think NM needs something better. But I think Denver would be a better fit for women's soccer. A rivalry with Utah would be sweet to see. How about the Colorado Vixens? Foxes are clever and cunning by nature, regardless of sex.

@Brian in Boston Keep in mind that the logo and such are still just a concept. I get where you come from in terms of what the symbolism would mean to many, but I personally love that we're pushing the boundaries a little and explore with regional history and some creativity.

"Pushing the boundaries" and exploring "regional history" while employing "creativity" is all well and good. That said, Mark's series also tend to be pretty grounded when it comes to recognizing the realities that impact pro sports leagues and franchises. The National Women's Soccer League is an entity that is still finding its footing within the sports entertainment industry. The notion that a prospective franchise - particularly one operating in a fairly nascent league and looking to set up shop in a tremendously competitive sports marketplace - would choose to make its path to sustainability more difficult by choosing a polarizing brand identity strikes me as straining credulity.

In any event, it is Mark's series and he is free to do as he sees fit.

Four clubs or five? Are you still planning for a Florida-based club to be one of the 10 Eastern teams? I see Orlando marked as a franchise site on the map, but no logo has been unveiled in the thread.

Also, I don't know where updates to Las Vegas stand, but if you're feeling stymied, have you given any thought to swapping the market out for Phoenix?

As for the markets you've listed here:

Washington
I've never been a fan of the Washington Spirit name or logo. I'd opt for Washington Freedom or DC Freedom, with a badge that incorporates imagery inspired by the Statue of Freedom atop the United States Capitol dome.

Chicago
I'd stick with Chicago Red Stars as the club's name. As for the logo, I think an update akin to your tweak of the Portland Thorns mark would be satisfactory

San Antonio
Of the names you're considering, Zorras is a non-starter. In Spanish, it isn't simply a feminine version of the male Zorro, meaning "fox". Rather, it's slang, with a meaning somewhere between "b!tch" and "whore". Clearly, not optimal. As for Calaveras, after MiLB's Copa de la Diversión promotion of the past couple of years, the whole candy skull imagery trend seems played out.

Albuquerque Denver
Instead of Albuquerque, I'd site a team in Denver. Denver City not only has a traditional soccer ring to it, but was the original name of the municipality from its founding in 1858 until 1881. Denver's Pioneer Mothers of Colorado statue might prove itself a source of imagery for a logo.
