We spent all this time talking about Miami not existing, when it was Nashville all along who lacked a corporeal form.

You know, it would be really nice for MLS if there was an already approved of expansion team that had a rock solid privately funded stadium plan in place approved by local and state governments going back several years. It would also be really nice if they had a contingency plan in place just in case they had to join the league a year (or two) sooner than expected.

If only that very scenario existed, say, in the capital of the most populous state in the country...

God! That would be such a convenient thing for them to have in a time like this.

IF ONLY...

I really do enjoy your (VERY JUSTIFIED) bitterness towards MLS. 😊

I assume it’ll fade once we kickoff for our first match. But, I’ve talked to quite a few people about the way the league runs, and they basically all say “get used to it”.

That being said, though? It’s kinda hard not to feel a little bit annoyed when the team that leapfrogged us because their bid was “so much better” is at risk of folding before they even start.

Luckily, we had a plan for a scenario similar to this. It felt like Miami was going to be that team, but I’ll gladly take “Vegas with a twang”’s spot instead! 😂 (LOVE that nickname, BTW).

The crazy thing is that Nasvhille is so full of transplants that the only twang you'll hear is from the stereotypical country kickers n' the honky tonks on lower Broad...and even half of that is manufactured.

(If more people knew just how manufactured so much of Nashville is these days...)

I mean, so is every prosperous city at this point, but that doesn't stop soccer from banking on civic pride as a matter of course.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office has dealt Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami a blow in its quest to use the Inter Miami CF abbreviation of its brand.

Leadership of Serie A side Football Club Internazionale Milano - aka, Inter and Inter Milan - has sued MLS, arguing that the term Inter is synonymous with their team and no one else.

On Monday, the USPTO found that Major League Soccer's argument - namely, the fact that a number of clubs around the world use Inter in their branding - did not meet the burden to show "that MLS has valid proprietary, or ownership, right in the name, Inter" for use by the league's new South Florida-based franchise.

Could Beckham-and-Company's soccer club be looking at a name change within a year of launch?

Between this and Nashville's stadium drama, this is turning out to be a pretty calamitous expansion round for MLS.

Im just as annoyed as you are that they leapfrogged us in Cincinnati as well. Nippert isnt ideal for us long term but its better than Yankee Stadium. I assume Hornet Stadium would have been a temporary option for Sacramento.

Revoking Miami (some time ago) and Nashville should have been done. Both are an embarrassment to MLS.

That's not a bad logo, now we need to get jerseys, coaches and players because playing in the Spring 2020 CPL season is a bit of a rush (I still think they should have began play in the fall).

You know, if you're someone who wants soccer in the US to be taken seriously, this has to be about the worst thing to happen when Las Vegas with a Southern accent is basically saying "Thanks, but no thanks" to your league.

Speak for yourselves, @Red Comet and @FiddySicks.  My own preferred comparison of Nashville to another US city is "Los Angeles without a tan" (to invert a phrase that Atlanta-born Shawn Mullins wrote and sang in the last verse of his 1998 song "Lullaby").

You're right in that probably about 0.2% of current Nashvillains care anything about stock car racing, but we all know how the "good ol' boy" attitude works. (And if you're going to mention Bell Buckle and Bucksnort, you'd have to throw in Christiana, Parsons, Counce, Lobelville, Dyer and Paris, too! 😁

Well, @Buc, I was going for a list of small towns in Middle Tennessee that satisfied the rule of three, was alliterative, consisted entirely of patently countrified names, and arranged the names in, at least in my opinion, an ascending order of hillbillyishness.  As a bonus, my list happened to arrange the towns in a geographically clockwise order: Buffalo Valley to the east, Bell Buckle to the south-southeast, and Bucksnort to the west-southwest.

Now, to get back on topic ...

Great. I get a whole new gimmick about how Nashville doesn't exist and now it's gone after one week. What is this, the WWE?

Whelp, that’s what you get when the writers rebel. At least you have the Inter Miami trademark dispute?

The Tennessean: Mayor John Cooper, Nashville FC reach new agreement on MLS stadium at Nashville fairgrounds

* Mayor Cooper will "immediately" green light demolition at Fairgrounds Nashville.

* Parcel 8C - the 2.4 acres closest to the Fairgrounds Speedway racetrack - will remain a component of the mixed-use development that's part of the stadium project.

* Both the mayor and Nashville SC leadership have agreed to a "set of principles" governing how Parcel 8C will be designed and developed so as to create an open plaza that will serve a variety of operations at the fairgrounds - namely, the soccer stadium and an adjacent, renovated Fairgrounds Speedway.

* Nashville SC will pay $54 million more in potential expenses, including $19 million in infrastructure costs and $35 million in stadium debt payments.

I don't have much else, sadly. Seeing Miami play actual soccer for realsies is going to be devastating.

This is the same league that "awarded an expansion club"  to Jay Precourt and his cronies to play in Austin, TX after they were unsuccessful in uprooting the Crew from Columbus, OH.

Austin, TX was nowhere on MLS's expansion radar before this kerfuffle.
