It’s easier for companies like Nike to rectify any mistakes, too. They have basically unlimited resources at their disposal and have quick turnaround no matter where in the world you are. And even if they have to take a small hit on the front end, it balances itself out in the end. Smaller companies don’t usually have that sort of room for margin of error. I’ve this firsthand with teams ordering merchandise from smaller, (even) local suppliers. It sounds nice to support a local business and plays really well with the community, but that’s about all. It’s one of the reasons why that sort of model is something teams tend to shy away from a bit. If you can outsource it, you might as well. It’ll usually be cheaper in the long run, anyway.

This is really interesting stuff, and particularly useful for this board, where you frequently read people bemoaning teams/leagues for failing to come up with bespoke designs. I'm thinking particularly in the case of the XFL thread, but it's also a frequent debate within the MLS narrative.

I'd guess there's a value equation brands must contemplate when considering what level of attention they give to certain leagues or clubs. Clubs with broader reach (ManU, ManCity, Barcelona, Real Madrid) will be more likely to get bespoke kits because they carry with them the power to distribute the manufacturer's brand. New Mexico United, however, does not. The safer route for those smaller organizations is the one you outline here: stick with the big brands that can provide quick turnaround with less margin for error.

And while we're talking about smaller clubs and smaller kit suppliers, the Cosmos are holding an internet vote for their new Inaria home shirt.

THE NEW YORK COSMOS KIT VOTE

The New York Cosmos, together with our partners at Inaria, are giving Cosmos Country a say in this year’s uniforms. We want you, our most committed fans, to help us pick the design of our famous green primary kit. Choose from one of the following patterns, and the jersey with the most votes will be our primary kit for the 2020 Fall Season in NISA.

These concepts are illustrated in the following jersey designs.

We will have two other kits this season: one that will play off of your primary choice, and a third that is currently being designed by a New York City artist. Check back here and on social media in the coming weeks for more news.

As always, thank you for your support and Let’s Go Cosmos!

Downgrade from last year. IF it had black adidas logo(instead of white) and black three stripes(instead of none) id call it an upgrade.

Hmm.  I think those are both selling points.  A black adidas logo would overpower it, break up the hoops and muddy it from any distance.  The white disappears against the yellow, which to my eye is a great improvement.

I don't love the hoops coming to an abrupt end on the sides, though.  Oh, well.  You can get a better look at it in this video:

Thinking about it, I'm coming around to agree with you re the logo.

Black 3 stripes like before would help with the hoops stopping at the stripes and not just randomly though

Like the uniform colors with white, orange and green.

Would have preferred it though if they went with different colored shorts or/and socks to break up the monochrome look. Ex.
Home: white jerseys and socks with either green or orange shorts.
Away: orange jerseys and socks with either green or white shorts.

Two things of note:
So the inaugural jerseys are some sort of team wear / catalogue option for sure, with the team being around less than a year.

There was talk of adidas having problems to produce a torrey green that matches the color in real life.
So maybe look out for it in a future version.

Pretty much ALL USL club’s kits are a catalogue option (At least, the ones from Nike and Adidas are). The first year I did graphics for Republic, Nike gave us and Cincinnati some extra choices to add a little bit of flair to our look (we went with a beveled star pattern on the shoulders and sleeves), but they were available for anyone to use after that. The design they used on last year’s home kits (which I had a bit of input on) started out quite a bit more intricate than it ended up being due to Nike wanting Republic to use a pattern that was more specific to Nike. I wanted the sash to include the same pattern from the sleeves the year before, but instead they ended up with a sash that had the trademark “Nike motion lines” (which is what I dubbed it). My idea for the third kit ended up getting flatly rejected by Nike.

It’s a lot more of the same for Republic with this year’s changes. Unless of course there have been changes since I left, which I doubt.

San Antonio borrowing the Barca home shirts and using a new Toyota logo.

If the shirt advert wasn’t positioned in a black bar going across the chest it would look better, but the bar plus the white box doesn’t work for me.

Got confirmation of that at the first game. They’ll have a Torrey Green one next year.

New home kit for Timbers 2, based on Adidas’ Authentic 18 miTeam template and featuring the Russia WC away shirt pattern:

In general I’m not a huge fan of the Russia WC away shirt pattern, and wish it was tonal on this shirt instead of gold. This is still a solid kit, though, as it’s pretty hard to mess up the dark green and gold color scheme.

The patterned shirt, though, kind of clashes with the non-patterned shorts. I'd have rather seen contrasting colored shorts. Better, I'd rather see a shirt without the pattern.

I don’t really see that as an issue, especially with the sleeves and back of the shirt, and presumably the socks all being the same solid dark green as the shorts. I do think the pattern would look better if it were the lighter shade of green that’s available on the miTeam site rather than the gold, but I think I’d rather see the shirt with the pattern as it is than without any pattern at all.
