to all you negative nancies, thee have been ads on helmets for decades... what do you call manufacturer logos? it's always been a thing since most of us can remember.

People complain about those all the time on here, what's your point?

And while still not great, it's obviously different as they actually had a hand in the equipment, rather than slapping an ad on for only that purpose. They have advertising plastered all over everything in American sports, but the uniform used to be the only "pure" thing we had. That's being chipped away and people are justified in saying "this sucks."

my point is we already get ads, the teams already work with these companies that are now on the helmet, which have had sponsors on them for DECADES... and just NOW people are complaining...

I was prepared for worse. Don't love it but can love with it.

However, guess this means the Caps scrapped that helmet with the three raised stars. Maybe they ditched the alt, too, not sure.

Might not be "scrapped" so much as "delayed". This is pretty clearly a move to recoup money from the loss of gate in most buildings; I'd be surprised if this wasn't designed as a temporary measure until they can be sure of playing seasons with fans in attendance.

Damn in that case I guess nobody can complain if they put a mcdonalds logo front and center on the jerseys, I mean there's already an adidas patch on the back!

Also lmao at being against intrusive advertising in every facet of life making someone a "negative nancy"

There was already a hair in your food, why are you only complaining now that I've spit in it? I've been spitting in your food for decades so shut up and eat it

A corporate billionaire's favorite phrase to hear when they shove more advertising down someone's throat

This might just be me, but I personally have no problem with these by themselves. It's not too noticeable for me. Let's hope that this is as far as it goes, but I'm not holding my breath.

These are about as good as it could be (which still isn't good, but whatever) because the logos are already either white or in the team's colors, meaning they fit with the jerseys already. As soon as we get a Harley-Davidson/Bucks scenario or a Blue Diamond/Kings scenario where the logos are completely different colors, they'll be far too noticeable and thus bad-looking.

Oh no, you might see a glimpse of an ad for like 4-5 seconds before a replay, how horrible and sacrilegious /s

The fact is the NHL has to recoup the loss of gate and the financial hit from the pandemic somehow. This is just the way they want to do it; and if keeping the league's finances healthy means an ad on the helmet, I don't really see the big problem here. And really, it's not like helmet logos have ever made or broken a uniform design, either.

It's greed, you're just being a contrarian. You always have the worst takes. And why do you keep typing like that, have you ever noticed that nobody else does it cause it's very annoying?

Funny how people are all up in arms about seeing a Tim Horton's or Discover ad on the side of a helmet, but have never complained about seeing Bauer, CCM or Reebok there for years upon years.

I don't think the manufacturers put the logos/wordmarks there for aesthetics.

It's not the same thing at all and you know it

but it is my dude. bauer ccm etc are companies who have their branding on equipment. when you think about it, they're advertising in every level of the sport... yet people complain when ads for other companies than equipment suppliars show up on equipment. it wont go further than this season most likely NHL uniforms wont look like europ[[ean league uniforms, the sky is not falling chicken little.

Exactly. We're definitely getting jerseys patches next year because of this kind of resigned attitude

And screaming at nothing until you're red in the face about a change that was inevitable with the economic impact this pandemic's left is any better? This was an inevitability because, as it turns out, ad patches help bring in some extra bucks.

And the ads so far are...Bridgestone, CapitalOne and Prudential. Three companies that already sponsor buildings. It's not like they're slapping Montana's ads or some :censored: on the helmets.

Bauer is a hockey company and they actually make their own gear, Tim Horton's and Viagra aren't and have nothing to do with hockey or hockey equipment manufacturing. Are you being dense on purpose or you're just playing devil's advocate cause you're bored?

Yeah bow down to your billionaire masters without saying a word. I'll keep complaining about the blatant greed, thank you

it's ALL advertising. i am not being dense man. if you are against tim hortons being on a small space on a helmet, as is bauer or ccm, and those might actually be BIGGER, and you arernt against equipm, ent makers advertising on stuff. then YOU are dense my guy

No you don't get it. Bauer using their own logo on the gear they make isn't the same as Dunking Donuts paying to have their ugly orange and pink logo on a royal blue helmet. Greed is the main difference here

Oh come off it. If I see a shirt that I like with a Nike logo on it, I'm implicitly being advertised to buy Nike shirts. CCM/Reebok/Adidas having their logo on the jersey is just as much an ad as a small CapitalOne patch on the helmet of the Caps or, indeed, a Nike-produced shirt having a Nike logo on it.

It doesn't matter that they make it, it's still a company logo either way. Adidas isn't some nonprofit thing, it's a corporate entity that benefits from having its logo on :censored: to advertise the brand. You're essentially pulling at straws to say one company ad on a uniform is fine, but another isn't.

Nobody actually complains about Bauer using their own logo on their equipment, this guy is just trying really hard to be a contrarian. False equivalence
