2020-2021 NHL Changes

I don't like the moon/wordmark motif. Not a big fan of the purple either. The jersey looks too dark for me, especially on camera. Other than that, I'm a fan, if that still makes sense.

I'd say the same thing about the Sharks, but neither crest is particularly good.

 

 

Combine the two and maybe you'd have something?

Both logos look dated in different ways but combining them could definitely give them something solid.  I would like to see them go back to the original logo with the following tweaks:

 

1) Fix the hockey stick.
2) Add the teal highlights to the Shark from the current logo.
3) Colour the eye orange, white or grey.  Or give it a more realistic eye.
4) Reduce the amount of outlines and simplify the triangle.

I love the kachina jerseys, but if Arizona moves to them full time, then they need to tweak the colors and have them balanced out better.

Yep, something along those lines.

 

The updated logo is too detailed for my liking, and the illustration looks too much like a stylized mid-2000's animatiion from Japan (I don't know, I'm making that up, but you know what I mean). I don't like the addition of orange at all, and the lines are too thin (including the triangle). Beef those suckers up a bit and simplify some details and it could be great.

 

The old logo is obviously not great, but it does have some charm in. I wouldn't be in favour of a return to it (like the Coyotes, Pens and possibly Anaheim) but I would be in favour of returning to a slightly more classic/traditional feel to the logo that the new one does not carry with it.

Never understood why the shoulders are green with maroon outlines, when the rest of the jersey has red elements with green outlines. 

 

Also, replacing all the green trim with turquoise would be an amazing color scheme for the Coyotes. Do the same for the Cardinals and all DBacks uniforms while we're at it.

The shark ends up looking too dark and flat if you don't give it some shading. I'd like to see it in black and grey. And even replace the orange hockey stick with grey seeing as it's been removed from the triangle and the eye. It gives it less of a reason to exist.

I think the stick needs to resemble a wooden stick in order to read as one here, being chomped and splintering like this. It's no fun if it's a composite stick!

I don't think that really matters, at all. Are you telling me that the importance of representing an accurately coloured wooden stick outweighs the importance of going with the best colour scheme they could (which IMO would be sans orange)? Being literal in a logo has never been the all that important. If it was, then there are about 24 things you could find wrong in all NHL logos I'm sure.

I agree with ridding of the teal shark, but I dislike the idea of ditching the orange stick, since it adds a bit of extra color to the logo. A gray shark and a gray stick would come off as pretty monochromatic. The orange keeps it looking a little more colorful, though I think they could absolutely alter the shade of orange used by darkening it, so it's not so close to a Ducks-type bright orange and more of a burnt orange color, like on the late 90's-2000's logo;

Personally I don't like the forced inclusion of orange. Why not omit the stick entirely? It such an outdated 90s motif that doesn't even make sense in the context of the logo (we eating hockey sticks because we are aggressive, grrrr). Teal, silver, black and white are already enough colors. Add orange and you've got a mess of 5 colors.

 

Maybe a gray shark is monochromatic but if the base of the jersey is teal, I don't see any issues with that. Here's a concept I made a few years ago that incorporates the current shark with the original triangle.

If we are taking the stick out of the picture I don’t really see why we even need to stick to the same concept of the shark jumping out of the triangle. I get what the triangle represents, but I’m sure they would find enough Nike talk for a new logo if they completely redid the thing. If it does have to stay, I love the monochrome shark. I mean, it looks like a shark now! I would say incorporate more teal, but have no clue how. Maybe just change the white between the black and teal to all teal to have two thick outlines for the triangle. I think it would also help on their white jerseys if you did that. While your concept would look perfect on a teal base, I’d be worried about trying to apply it on a white one.

The Sharks have that shark secondary (which,by the way, I think is a terrible way to do a secondary: that doesn't supplement the primary, it provides an alternative), so I think they have been flirting with completely replacing the chomping shark. I'm not a fan of it. The Sharks have to have a little of that Charlotte Hornets '90s kitsch in their DNA, the new shark could just be for any team anywhere from any time.

Thanks for the mockup @ieatstaples ... I don't mind it without the stick either, although in some way I feel like it loses something without it. Maybe it's just becuse I'm so used to it.

Upon seeing it rendered in grey highlights instead of teal, I am a little hesitant about it. It does look a bit monochromatic. However, I still think this the better option, and maybe some further tweaks could be made to support the grey.

 

That shark fin shoulder patch logo is fantastic though. With the orange it was a bit tacky, but without it, it looks mean and sleek. Love it.

The Sharks should just use this logo and call it a day 

 

EDIT: Admiral’s point is mostly there. I would just personally rather have a somewhat generic logo that looks good than a look that’s unique to my team but looks kinda stupid/dopey, as the current Sharks logo does.

I dislike that logo. The shark fin is ridiclously large, the shark itself looks even more cartoony than what they currently have and that stylized S underneath looks like something a graphic designer in middle school would put in there because they think it looks cool.
