They work really well, right now, with the current road, but not as well with the home, and definitely not with a navy home jersey. Plain navy breezers would be the best in matching, but also I’m not a fan of plain breezers. I feel like those stripes can make the difference sometimes. The Oilers' pants stripes look great - the usage of colours and the width of the stripes. Whenever possible, teams should proudly display their team colours on their breezers, provided they don't have too many colours.

They look amazing with the road jerseys, and part of the reason why I like them better than the Reebok royal and orange jerseys. But the stripes don’t fit with the home and a possible navy version. It’s similar to the Blackhawks wearing their 96-09 black jerseys with the striping on their breezers. It doesn’t really match, and when you see it, it’s hard to unsee it... It'd be a way better alternate then the dumb Color Rush nonsense they have going now. This was an ambitious color combination and I applaud it in theory. If Red had been featured more prominently (equal to the Bronze and Blue) it would have worked better. I think once you commit to using 3 colors it's best to use them as equally as possible. But, ultimately, Royal blue Orange and White is the superior color combination imo

WSU151
If anyone had any doubts about Calgary...SportChek in Canada has all red-yellow-black merchandise heavily on sale (more so than teams that aren't changing) with retro stuff not on sale. And here are some socks that are perhaps on sale ahead of schedule (though no *new* news). The Sens socks without gold in the actual logo maybe just a manufacturing error or color limit or something. Adding a copper alt would also have been really nice. That, or (less good but still really good) would be switching to the copper set and having the royal/orange be the third. You are totally right. What really boggles my mind is they have now abandoned this uniform not once, but now 2 times. When you see fans wearing this blue jersey side by side with another wearing the current orange jersey, you question why they would ditch this classic blue jersey. I don't mind the orange as just that, an ALT. It completed their colour set, and stood out with the unique number placement. Besides, it looked INCREDIBLE with the royal blue. Chromatic
I like the Oilers in orange. I like their current set. I understand why people prefer the old royal blue jerseys, but we have enough teams in that colour, it adds some differentiation and also distinguishes the current team from the 80s Oilers

My question to that rumor and to your quote (bolded) is: Does Bergeron and Marchand wear any different shade of Gold that Bobby Orr or Ray Bourque wore in their day? Does Toews and Kane wear any different shade of Red that Bobby Hull or Stan Makita wore in their day? Why does it matter if Crosby and Malkin wear the exact same colors that Lemieux and Jagr wore Do the NY Yankees change shades of Blue every time they have different Superstars playing in different eras to Distinguish them from previous Teams / Players / Eras? I just don't get it. IF your Teams colors were Royal Blue / Orange during the Gretzky Championship era, wouldn't you want Connor McJesus to be associated with that same Winning Tradition

chcarlson23
Well to be fair, the Oilers are unique in the situation that they were absolutely garbage while they were wearing the new version of the classic sweaters... So there might be a little more hostility towards that look, and management might have felt a need to make a new look for the Oilers, for the new team they had “just” built. The Pens, and Yankees have never really had long stretches of sucking so bad that they feel the need to ditch a classic look... The Pens did just happen to ditch the look, but not because they team had been awful. "And those who know Your Name put their trust in You, for You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You." 1insaneguy
I'm not a huge fan of that current orange Oilers jersey, but if they must wear orange I'm glad they decided to ditch the shoulder numbers. Shoulder numbers for NHL teams (unless they're on a stadium series jersey) just don't make a lot of sense to me.
monkeypower
Anecdotally speaking, from living in Edmonton for school over the past three years and from the couple Oilers games I've been to while in Edmonton, I don't know if I can safely say if there appears to be a definite preference for the jersey eras, at least from a visual standpoint seeing the fans. Every jersey era is represented in the stands, though the current and previous (EDGE royal and orange) sets having the most, but that is the current set and the set that was only retired in 2017 so it makes sense that those are the most prominent. The least prominent though is the original EDGE, which also makes sense... I also think there is significance to why fans would have each of the jerseys. Gretzky Era - Heyday and Gretzky Navy and Copper Era - 06 run and wearing that set for 10 years OG EDGE Era - That Reebok company is giving everybody new jerseys, so you got to have the new jerseys if that's what the team is wearing EDGE Royal and Orange Era - A return to the heyday and Gretzky, plus got to get the jerseys for the new #1 draft pick(s)/McDavid rookie jersey Current Set - A new era with McDavid and a new arena

BurdBranding
I know this was touched on in some previous posts, but I think the Kings NEED to make a change. I don’t know if it’s because I see them all the time (being a Sharks fan), if it’s because I grew up around junior and club hockey during the time every team copied it, or if it’s just because piping isn’t my thing. This set was so slick and modern when it came out in 2011, I think, setting up the trend to copy/paste for junior/youth/beer league teams all over, but the overuse has just made them age so fast. It’s not their fault they made a trend setting uniform, but I think they should stay ahead of the curve. Yes, they won multiple cups in them, yet I still don’t feel like they look different enough from other eras to claim nostalgia points. When I think about the Kings, I also have to question myself if the criticism or lack of excitement for the jersey come because they are (or were previously) our biggest rivals, but I’d like to think I want all teams in the NHL to look the best they can, especially if they are playing my team the most. I hate Vegas, but don’t think their jerseys are bad, and I’d like to think the same about LA. The Kings have hit a hard low, and their current set is overstaying its welcome if Kings fans want to remember it as the “Stanley Cup” Era threads. Now is the best time to change things up. Chromatic
I don't really have an issue with the Kings sets. I find them kind of bland, but a hem stripe on the homes, a shoulder patch and getting rid of the pit stains would go a long way. Ideally they'd use a logo that isn't the home plate too. I think the Kings should stay in silver and black too, but since they're not using purple anymore I'd like someone in the NHL to step up and adopt it. As much as I like the Seattle uniforms, I thought that was the perfect opportunity
M4One
On the Sabres, would anyone be surprised if the chest numbers were still there? On the Kings, match the home to the road at the very least, and maybe change out the font on the logo. The Kings' road whites are one of the few white jerseys that looks better than the home. Come out with a purple/black/silver alternate with the crown logo.
